I remember putting a few 300zx diffs in 240's after I spooled them. Have to swap a few parts out, including drive flanges. They're held in with an expanding clip/spring thing. So are honda stubs (i posted pictures in another thread of one that broke even with the side gear, and twisted the splines on the side gear as well!). So are fjz80 front axles, at both the star on the inner birfield joint, as well as the differential. I made my own slide hammer out of a used gooseneck ball (smooth shank drop in style). I tacked it to my welding top and ran my magdrill down the center, ha. I've done everything listed in this thread.

You need different tools for different situations. I really don't think there will ever be an end-all be-all tool for one specific purpose. That's why people have 'bunches' of tools to begin with! If I had to chose 1 tool in particular, it would be the slide hammer. In the broken Honda stub cv, I ended up welding a bolt to the stub, a nut to the bolt (after shearing it once) and attaching the slide hammer to that to pull it out. The spring clip at the end (at the groove) really didn't want to budge, and the twisted splines didn't help it either. I've also air-hammered the back of the slide hammer for things that really didn't want to budge.

I work on 1990 to 2005 Honda Civics and all generations of Acura Integras. I will have to swap a half shaft on a Honda Element in the future. The tip of my SK pry bar snapped off when I used it to pry out a 89 Honda Accord half shaft.

I emailed OTC but they gave me the wrong answer. OTC game me the part number for the slide hammer extension. I need the part number for the slide hammer C fork.

Will KD Tool slide hammer C forks thread on the an OTC slide hammer? Does KD make a C fork for imports?

Here's a picture from NAPA of a 1990 Honda Civic CV driveshaft. I'm 99% sure the OTC C fork will work on it. It looks very similar to a GM driveshaft.

I have the part numbers with the Amazon links in posts #30 and #37. Check with ToolTopia first before buying from Amazon. Sometimes ToolTopia is slightly less on their price.

There are older Ford transaxles you take one axle out at a time sticking in a special tool,the ATX and MTX.If you don't do this,you will hear a ker plunk noise called spider gears falling out and the fix is to remove the transmission and taking it apart.I have a GM tool made by Kent Moore,a wedge tool you smack with a hammer to remove the driver's side axle with the 4T60E and 4T65E transaxles.

Mid 80's Chrylser 3 speed auto trannies were like this also; you removed only one axle at a time in order to prevent the gears from falling down.

Those STUCK-*** Nissans and Fords? Tubular fork axle popper tool reaches around the ring gear pin from the opposite side to pop out an axle.

If prybar doesn't work, I use Air tools.

Snap On Air Hammer with a Bent End Chisel works great.

:lol_hitti when i 1st read you post i was thinking BUTCHERBOY but now that i think about it some light touches on an airhammer trigger with a suitable bit just might be a good plan sometimes.

This tool pulls constant velocity joints on 1986-current Taurus/Sable. The problem is OTC only states that the c fork works with 1986-current Taurus/Sable. That is why I had to keep asking forum members if the c fork works on other cars. OTC should have an application chart / sheet to tell the buyer what their c fork works with.

Yeah I don't know why OTC says that. From what I can tell by using the C fork, it will work on any CV shaft inner tripot housing as long as the housing is tapered on the end. You just need a little room to slide the fork in between the tripot housing and the transaxle case. Every CV drive shaft I've seen on the internet has been tapered, but I imagine some aren't.

I received an email reply from OTC when I asked them the following question:

Will the 7507 – CV joint fork work on Honda Civics, Acura Integras, and Honda Element?


OTC's email reply:

I do not have an application guide for that tool. It was designed with the ford vehicles in mind, but with the common design of CV axles, it will work on many other vehicles as well.

I've got the C fork and I can take a picture of it on a GM tripot housing to show how it works if you want...

The first picture is the tripot housing by itself. The second picture is with the C fork in position. Obviously the tripot will be horizontal rather than vertical when installed on the car. Ignore the socket on the left propping the C- fork up. The dollar bill is for scale.

probably used one in tech school learning the "right way". haven't touched one since though, time is money. lol

Wait some more time and you will lose money when you get a stuck axle and need these. My bud in a transmission shop has homemade ones.

I use pry bars or the slide hammer adapter. I watched a tech use the pickle fork type tool and he ended up cracking the trans axle before the half shaft came out. So watch out.

This is the best i can do right now. They are pretty good boxes but had to change the detent system completely bcz the freakin drawers wanted to be "just so" before they would lock.

They originally have the rubber grabber system that has become so dominant in global type boxes these days, well, not just that but they really wanted to as i said be "just so" before i could lock the whole box up. Sometimes it was that one or several drawers were unlocked after i thought i had it locked for the night. That gave way to checking each drawer each time i locked up, with several attempts being necessary each night to be able to lock all drawers, which drove me temporarily insane. LOL.
