Baldor 10in Grinder question

Answered a CL posting for a "Big Grinder" today, and this is what I came home with.
Baldor 10 Grinder.JPG
Had been looking for a Baldor grinder or buffer to put on a Baldor pedestal I had, and this one will work quite well.
Right.JPG
Grinder is a 1hp, 1800rpm, 1ph, 120/230v 10in machine. Came with 1 10x1 wheel. Missing left side tool rest, and 1 wheel, (hardware was there) Broken Plexiglas shield also, so I will be looking for a left side tool rest and bracket like this right one,
existing bracket and rest.JPG
And a new plexiglass shield.
Anyone know if these parts are available through Baldor? Or after market parts co.some where? Haven't gotten to check yet, so if you have a heads up I would appreciate it.
Since I had 2 new 11/2in x 10in stones from another machine, I decided to move them to this machine. During disassemble I was shocked at condition of this thing. I am quite sure only very light, if any grinding has been done by this machine. No metal flakes or grit anywhere. Just clean paint. MUCH better than I had expected from the poor picture in the "Big Grinder" CL post. Nothing to clean up, just wipe off a little dust and change the stones, good to go.
Up and running on temporary 220v plug, and sweet machine. Not sure if the 1 ½ stones will stay or not. Anyone running one like this with this big of a stone? Seems a bit much for the 1hp to spin up. Should I go back to 1in stones?
Looking forward to your comments.
John

You can find that stuff pretty easily through googling "Baldor Parts" or "Baldor Grinder Parts." Expect it to cost significantly more than you expect. You can usually get that stuff from Grainger with the same provision about price.

I got that same machine for about 70 bucks with the stand, but nothing as far as shields or covers. What I did was bought a used Jet for cheap and made the parts from the Jet fit the Baldor. I think it saved me about 700.

Great machine, hope you get a lot of use out of it. Sure wish it was easier to search online for the wheels, when you put in your dimensions a search engine goes nuts.

Grats on a wonderful tool. I have longed for a Baldor buffer for a long time and have yet to strike gold.

Looks like yours is in the way as much as mine. I also have an 8", I put them on wheels. I'm going to get in trouble for saying this but I think they should probably live outside. I've been wanting to make a little shed for the grinder/wire wheel/buffer machines, once I get around to it they'll be too far away and I won't bother using them.

Since vises are getting scarce I'm branching out into grinders. Guys the 3 Phaze grinders around here don't get the roar of the crowd and go cheap. I bought a 10 inch old Black & Decker and stripped it just for the parts. For $35 I got a nice stand, it had 2 new baldor Light/shields on it, the tool rests Inside and outside guards with keyways, and wheel holders. I even took out the on/off switch. The box of parts weighs 50 lbs alone. The tool rests are similar to baldor but smaller. One day we might have a thread devoted to parts for grinders. Right now I have a Baldor 7307 missing almost everything.

What you probably want to do is take those stones off and send them to my house. Got a line on more of those?

Bill, the 11/2in stones came from Enco. $45 ea I believe. Check here: Enco
I also have this on wheels, as everything in my shop needs to move at times.
Ricleh, your grinder looks pretty much identical to mine, except you have the lighted eye shields, and both tool rests. Yours looks like 1hp? Love those lights, but seems they are mounted on the same cheesy metal sticks mine have. Is this correct? And how do you like them? Worth the money? Or should I just stay with the cheap-o plexi-sticks? :headscrat
Outlawmws, I hear ya. Been waiting for a while to catch this one. Not exactly u-****, ($200 + 1hr drive), but around me they seem to go more in the $400-$500 range, so I thought I did OK. Till I read about all who found theirs for $70, with stand, with light, with new stones, etc.... :lol_hitti

Still, I'm happy!

I got mine from a guy who used it sparingly on his farm. He built the stand which weighs about 200 lbs. It was missing the plexi shields so I bought the lighted shields and I really like them. They mount the same way as your plexi shields. I tested the grinder before I bought it and it was really smooth and powerful. I can't remember exactly, but I think I paid $150 or $200 for the grinder and the stand. I had to take it apart so he and I could load it into my truck. I currently have a 1" wide stone on one side and a 1.5" wide wire wheel on the other side.

I've got 4 big ones in various stages of complete. The only one that doesn't run is missing the capacitor/s and while I can just call Baldor and buy the part, I'd rather find out what SIZE cap and buy it from somewhere cheaper :)

I guess I can open up my others, but I have a bad problem where I take things apart and they never end up back together....

Good score, you can't go wrong with it.

Everything is in the way in my garage. I'll take a few pictures this weekend. Almost everything I have is on wheels since I have to move stuff constantly to get to things and to make room to work.

RC, Know what you mean. Seems like I tend to look around the ones I have on other machines. I also use safety glasses with side shields while grinding.
What type of plastic did you get when you made your own?

ricleh, I'd say your in need of a little bigger shop!
At least it is all neat and tidy, and I'll bet you can find everything when you need it. And I don't see anything that you can get rid of... :dunno:
If you want, you could ship a few of the items my way, and I could store them in my barn for ya. Those Snap-On's and the big buffer, an, an, an,
Keep us posted on your new barn build! :lol_hitti

I am guilty, got one got it for 50 and dont use it, rarely use a drill press either despite a fair amount of steel fabrication. If there is a humanly possible way to do it with a battery drill I am on it and if it can be done with a 4 1/2 grinder I am on that. What do yall grind with that big *** grinder? All that stuff and still got to work in the yard with hand tools.

Is this temp while moving etc? Kind of doesnt look that way. You can be a high end hoarder too? Even a neat one.

I have some junk, threw out a lot recently, going to sort and toss some more but I have created low cost out of the way storage area for stuff too nice to toss on some level but absolutely dont want to wade thru, there are some hoarder in all of us but I try to be realistic.

Same with toolsthere gets to be a limit, do I really need it, once I cross that line I find myself with even greater imagination. As one said here,,, everyone should work on the road for a bit, find out just how much you really need. I routinely carry 99% of the tools I really use on a pickup.

That's a great score. Here is Baldor's catalog and parts price lists. I just bought 2 tool rests for a 8107W from

Baldor is almost like going to the dealer for a set of Spark Plugs . My tool rests listed for $45 ea. on Balbor's sheet. I got them for $33 each. Go with OE. That's much too nice of a grinder to skimp by. Also get a shield if you need one.

autopts: Thansk. Agree with you and was able to find the tool rest's here: PLCCenter.
Rest $28, mounting bracket $22, both available, and I was able to pick up a pair of the cheezie eye shield from eBay for $30. So for additional $80 I basically have a near new $1k grinder. Added new stones, but I consider those to be an expendable. Couldn't be happier.

Sometimes its all timing. You certainly were in the right place at the right time. One great pickup.
