Yes,about 10-1.....metal speeds are gonna be 3-400 FPM,give or take, and it is critical to quality of cut and blade life.Blade cooling is done with liquid coolants for the most part.

Wood speeds would be 10X that...@ 3-4000 FPM.On the wood side, its not "quite" as critical as metal speeds....UNTIL,you get to resawing and/or exotic woods. But for general wood sawing....the speeds are a little more tolerant.

Chip evac starts to be an issue on wood though.Short of full-on...bigazz "mills",liquid coolants for blades are generally more hassle than they're worth. But a LOT can be done with air.It not only cools the blade but can be a make or break it(literally) when resawing.....Well its also used on highly abrasive exotic woods. We have some here that are about like runnin a pce of Aluminum through through your wood BS.Heck,a species as benign as Purpleheart will peel a sharp blades edge as fast as you want? And yes,we sharpen/set our own.Introduce some serious air, directly into cut and its almost tolerable.
