Barbed fittings and poly pipe leak help

Received the new fitting today. It will not go in without a fight. It will need to be heated to insert it. Funny thing is the new fitting looks just like the picture from Home Depot. I believe it is just like your say, someone returned the wrong fitting and it was but back into the wrong stock.

I did some work on my shallow well at the shop last year. The black plastic pipe from the well pushes, with much difficulty, onto a steel barbed fitting /adapter that has a male pipe thread on the other end.. in my case I used a reducer fitting / fittings to readapt to pex. As far as I know, or could find, pex fittings don’t directly fit the black well pipe because the pex I’d is different.

I think it was a pex B fitting sold by mistake.

PEX is copper tube size and poly is available in iron pipe size or copper tube size.
