Aviation engine tool kit, WWII I'd imagine. Is it empty? If any of the tools are still in it that's cool as hell! Even if not that could probably still make an awesome tool chest.

Unfortunately it is empty. I might pass it on to my lovely wife for her jewelry collection, as space in the garage is very limited

OK, the combination of Packard and Rolls-Royce on the plate is very interesting.

During WWII, Packard made a version of the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (which powered the Spitfire). See

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packard_V-1650_Merlin

Also check out the thread linked above which appeared when I was typing this.

(I've no idea if this is what your chest was for, you could try researching the number on the plate, or track down an expert).

So there is the possibility that your chest has some important history associated with it. It's also probably quite rare. I would recommend trying to find out more, in case it is valuable. (And don't modify or refurb it until you know it's not).

Jeff, how big is it? I'd guess 24" x 24" x 18" from the photo...

Yeah approximately that size.

As far as turning it into a jewelry box I mean it would remain all original like it is. I would let my wife utilize the drawers. ...that's all.

There is probably a museum somewhere with a Packard V-1650 Merlin on display that would like to have that box for either some money or if donated perhaps a small plaque with your name on it.

Packard was building the RR Merlin here in the US.

The box is not exactly a 'museum' piece. But it is neat.

If you want sell it, my BIL would most likely give it to one of his good customers who have a couple of P51's.
