New construction, metal building zoned AG. Im having FPL come out and install a power pole but wanted to get quotes for a 200amp panel with a 4 gang outlet. Thats it, nothing fancy. Just a place to plug in some lights and a well pump in the future. First person I talked to said I have to have outlets every x feet along the perimeter and lights above every door. I could understand if it was residential but not an AG barn. And yes, Ill work out more electrical plans later, I just want the permit/inspection phase over so I can enjoy it a little.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure about AG building requirements, but you might want to just pull a permit for a detached garage and get it inspected and approved. Then modify it later, as needed. Garage permits are usually fairly simple. For most areas they only require one 20 amp GFCI receptacle circuit (separate from the lights) and an interior/exterior lights circuit with a switch by the door.

Some AHJ's may require a main disconnect for the building and at least one GFCI receptacle for each garage door bay. Wiring will have to be protected from physical damage if its not in a finished wall, and for a sub-panel you would need separation of neutral and ground, and two ground rods for the sub-panel.

Call the AHJ for required minimum.

Go on FPL website and locate their electric service requirements.

If it is an AG building, typically all wiring must be in conduit. Might have to be EMT so that animals can not chew it.

rules(in this state) for an agricultural use building when you have the Ag exemption(not to be confused with Ag classification)
are different. To be honest theres a lot of confusion about this so get everything in writing.IF you dont have the Ag exemption
the building is treated like any other out building.

In Oregon the ag exemption gets you out of needing engineering for the building, and the final inspection. But if you are doing major mechanical work or having animals in the building there are additional requirements for the electrical. It's best to ask the planning dept about the pros and cons.
