Picked up the pans tonight - ran into some flurries but they didn't last for long. All of the pans look good... the clip lock is the right size... and yeah. So, I hem the pans tomorrow, and if it doesn't rain Saturday I'll get the road side done.

I certainly hope you live in this house a long time after spending so much time building this.

I'll be posting some updates soon. Main roof is done, waiting for soffit material to be delivered this week.

I do have one question... I never pulled an electrical permit as I want to do that after the building is inspected/approved. As I'm closing the soffits up, I want to make it easy to put in floods at all four corners of the building. As I see it, I can run all the wires in the soffit, or run them inside the building and punch through where I need electrical outside. I don't care either way - I think running inside the building and punching through would be the easiest - but I want to make sure I don't have to rework anything down the line.

Any thoughts?

I'd ask the inspector you will deal with. It seems each inspector has unique nits to pick and he can give you insight on how he likes it approached. I see benefits each way, but I think I'd run them inside the building. This is mainly due to my environment being corrosive with salt air. I see a benefit of running it in the soffit as having fewer holes into the main structure for bugs to come in and to lessen fire break holes.

Update? Any pics of finished roof? How is the siding going? Thanks

In Washtenaw County, where I am, I got to the final and they wouldn't approve me because I didn't have any electrical. They claimed it should have been stopped at rough-frame due to wanting to verify no framing structures were compromised drilling (etc) for wiring. The office said to pull an electrical permit. Which I did for minimum -- basically 1 outlet per garage bay, GFI protected, 1 bulb per garage bay, 1 exterior light for each man-door. (they make you itemize all of this when submitting the form for the permit and there's a cost multiplier for each wiring device).

Learn from me and terminate all of your grounds before the electrical inspection. I got "cancelled" because the office said I just needed the wires run and it didn't matter about the grounds...because I asked specifically. however the inspector had a 180 degree different opinion. So I fixed that. Then the inspector told me, oh, for this little wiring you could have been covered under the main building permit and didn't need a separate electrical permit to be pulled.

Glean from this what you wish but the office and the inspectors are like people who pass each other in the hall and don't like each other and thus don't talk to each other...

Hope all is well and the barn build is still continuing!

Erm, sorry for no posts for a while. Things have been progressing... completion date is this October (siding, all that is left). I have a huge backlog of updates/photos. Life, unfortunately, is complicated, and between two jobs and events (nothing horrific) progress has been slow. I've been reluctant to post since the weather was quite bad last (2018) winter, and we had a rainy spring (2019).

Well, I for one was very glad to see you had a full proper metal roof in place when I drove by the other day. Hard to see it well through the trees, but glad not to see any blue insulation, haha.

:D Thankfully the main roof was done 3/2018, though I put a temporary roof over the lean-to as I didn't want to walk over the metal when I put my siding on.

While it cannot be seen well from the road, soffit is all installed (except the facia on the front so I can still use the pump jacks), so really the siding and some minimal interior work is all that is left.

I'll start posting photos tonight... starting up from where I left off (so it will start with 2008). If I do this right it should just take me a few nights to get my postings up to date.

Siding arrives next week, need to finish it ASAP so I can avoid a ZBA renewal (would be the first one I'd have to do, do not want to have to go in front of the board). Is this possible? Only if I'm able to trim around the windows quickly. A little worried about that, but will deal with it when I get there I guess. I think the soffit work prepped me for the siding.

Siding was delivered today! I have two months to install, I think I can do this????

Still working on pictures. Uploading/tagging/linking to Flickr is a pain, and I have limited time at the moment. I looked into programming my own uploader but that might not save me a lot of time... also trying to find a free utility to batch upload. Worst-case I'll manually upload and skip tagging.

So, I decided to move away from Flickr - they changed their terms and are now charging (the horror!) for > 1,000 uploads. I have my own web hosting package, but for now at least am using Instagram.

Today (Sept 28, 2019) I have one entire side of siding done, and am on track to finish by the end of October.

Friday, Nov 6, 2017: More progress on the roof.

Saturday, Nov 11, 2017: Roof progress, as well as my failed design for a "sled" of sorts to help bring panels up to the roof.

Sunday, Nov 20, 2017: Last update for a while. At this point I ran into two major issue with the roofing materials that were supplied to me:

1) Significant scratches throughout some of the remaining panels
2) The remaining panels would not snap down.

#1 was the coil stock supplier - evidently when they slit the rolls into smaller rolls (that my roof mfg used), they introduced some damage. All were replaced at no cost to me.

#2 led to a huge delay (two months). The tolerence on the snap lock is very tight - if it varies too much it won't snap. turns out the machine forming the panels had a broken part that needed to be replaced by the mfg of the former.

Sunday, Feb 18, 2018: Cold, but was able to get up and start putting panels on.

(since I'm posting this a year later, I believe all of the issues had been worked out with the roof panels, but can't be certain)

Monday, April 2, 2018: After a slight hiatious due to bitter cold weather, I began work on the upper soffit.

(At least, I'm pretty sure weather delayed me. Note that this soffit "design" was the original intended design, but changed for the remainder of the project. I had to rework this when I switched to metal siding)

Mid to end of April, 2018: I don't have photos, but I worked on the soffit when I could (weather-permitting).

Sunday, May 13, 2018: Added trim around upper window. The large brown flashing above the window is there to move any water that gets inside the wall assembly out towards the top of the window. I actually cut a 1.5" slit into the foam and shoved it in - I don't trust tape in the long run to hold up.

Tuesday, May 15, 2018: Began installing the siding, no battens installed.

(While I don't have any pictures of the (short-lived) decision to make my own siding, it involved planing the boards, cutting them to width, painting a wood preservative, primer, then two coats of paint, cutting to fit, priming/painting the cut ends)

Sometime in May (2018). I realized making siding was a crazy idea. Not only because of how slow I tend to do things, but because after everything was said and done, in 10 years woodpeckers would start to destroy it. So, I put the project on hold (unintentionally). Time kinda slipped by...

Sunday, Jun 2, 2019: Soffit work begins on the lower level. The design is different - since I'm doing metal I don't need to have the top air vent anymore.
