Yep, I did it back in the 1970’s. The shop custom van had custom laminated oak bumpers that were sprayed Candy blue then clear coated with two part clear. This vehicle spent lots of time outside as it was rolling advertisement for the shop. Furniture has been lacquered for ages as well as guitars. Last week I refinished two more panels of an antique armoire. Let the stain dry overnight then sprayed three coats of clear lacquer. You can use standard primers (lacquer thinned) or two part primers. Just stick with compatible paint products.
