What the hand held models weren't good enough for the newtimers? They had to put a cord on it and mount it on a cart?

Nice decoration piece and well worth the $20, but you are not going to be testing modern batteries with it.
Back in the day even before my time shops used them to find the bad cell, then you cut the top open and lifted it up and out, installed a new(or more likely good used) cell poured hot tar around the gaps and presto a rebuilt battery was born![]()
