Way cool!

Is it still functional? Probably is for old 6v battery's. Should be possible to test it.

That is for testing across the external straps connecting between cells. It would be measuring 2.1 volts for each cell.

Nice decoration piece and well worth the $20, but you are not going to be testing modern batteries with it.
Back in the day even before my time shops used them to find the bad cell, then you cut the top open and lifted it up and out, installed a new(or more likely good used) cell poured hot tar around the gaps and presto a rebuilt battery was born :)

What the hand held models weren't good enough for the newtimers? They had to put a cord on it and mount it on a cart?

And the new apprentice ran the tar melter? Yikes!
