i have two examples of a promotional Snap-on metal folding knife/keychain/bottle opener with "Snap-on Tools" on front side and dealer's name on back; one with underlined logo, one without underline and both with "U.S.A." marking.

The "Handycapper"
It was included in a lot for some vintage tools that I purchased off EBay. The only information I can find is the Swallow Aircraft Company also made the Tuffy screw driver.
Anyone have any additional input?

Being old school, we simply drove a 10d or 12d nail into a post, leaving 1" or so sticking out and bent the nail down at a 45 degree angle. Easy to do and no one tries to steal them. Hang a tin can underneath to catch the caps. Necessity is still the mother of invention.

Hell. Most times I just hold the cap against the edge of my bench vise, and slap
the top with the heel of my hand. The custom ones made by metalsmith friends stay inside the house.

Bottles that require an opener are a nonstarter.

If you run the numbers, the inefficiency of the extra step (or steps for a remotely located opener) to open the beer cuts your consumption by a factor that is simply unacceptable.

Yeah - I might have a problem.

Consider it a way of helping cut down on a beer belly without having to do any exercise or real work.

Re: Let's see your bottle openers

Found it at my grandfathers house. Assuming it's early to mid 70s. fc56003ccc5fe73dbabcffc2c4199e65.jpg

I'm not saying it isn't that old, but Starr is still in business and they're exactly the same.

My newest for the bar:

Danish push down style opener, like the "Open Ya *******" previously posted by Hotfr8. They've recently taken them off the market because people were slamming them down too hard and the bottles were breaking. Doesn't need any force. Just a smooth push down, let it pop up by itself. I'll try to remember to post a video later...

Here is an update on my bottle opener collection. Up to 45 right now.

What is the orange, grey and black one in the upper right next to the Channel Locks?

BTW, I just ordered...just 10 seconds a Husky screwdriver set to get the husky one.

I periodically have to unscrew the folgers can and dump it out.

I do have a huge collection of vintage bottle openers in a box somewhere. I'd like to build a little case and mount them all in the case behind glass, and put lettering on the glass that says "in case of emergency, break glass" and have like 50 bottle openers in there.

Problem is, real American beer doesn't come with twist tops.

There's always one of these around
scaletowidth
but since Corona is the only thing that's not twist off, I never need it.

I wanted to make an opener using a vintage tool with its unique character and battle scars.
Ive always liked the distinct style of this adjustable wrench.
The nicks, dents, owners stamping all add to the patina.
It has that tough industrial feel to it, but its easy to handle.
I enjoyed making this.

I don't have anything cool like that stuff, I just use a pair of pliers. Guess I could always add making a bottle opener to my list of projects.

I was making a joke about Budweiser, which is neither beer, nor American.

Budweiser may not be American OWNED, but it is still made in the USA, by Americans. With the same recipe. It's also still the biggest selling beer in the world. Anheuser-Busch InBev also bought SABMiller, so now none of the large volume "American" beers are "American".

Here's a list of the US brands AB InBev owns:

•10 Barrel Brewing Co
•Blue Moon
•Blue Point Brewing Company
•Bud
•Budweiser
•Busch
•Coors
•Elysian Brewing Company
•Goose Island Brewery
•Hamm’s
•Henry
•Hop Hound Amber Wheat
•Icehouse
•Keystone Ice
•Landshark
•Leinenkugel
•Michelob
•Mickey’s Malt Liquor
•Miller
•Milwaukee’s
•Natural Ice
•Natural Light
•Oculto
•Olde English 800 Malt Liquor
•Red Bridge
•Rock Light
•Rolling Rock
•Shock Top Belgian White
•Wild

I bet you've had at least ONE of these "non American" beers. Some of them are not even twist tops. :lol_hitti

There are over 220 brands in the AB-InBev family. I wouldn't be surprised that many of the import beers people drink to boycott AB-InBev are made by them.

I happen to like Bud. I won't argue that there are "higher rated" beers. I like many of them too.

Sorry for the hijack. Back to our regularly scheduled topic...

In the only town in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg.
Used similar to open beers...
Logan_Rock_Treen_closeup.jpg

Also used similar to open a bottle of the following $3500.00 wine at the beach ....

$_57.JPG

Long story, but I had a few bottles of this particular year when I was about 20, was a gift.

The person who gave it to me was given 2 cases.
Was the best wine I ever taste, but if I were to buy it, the max I would pay is $35 a bottle.

At the time (1970), this stuff was going for $300/bottle, increased in value somewhat.

Guess it was sacrilegious using a rock to open it.

You grip the bottle in lets say your left hand around the neck. put the bottom end of the bic under the lip of the cap, then use your thumb as a pivot point and pry. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get good at it, you can hit your garbage bin (or friends) with the flying cap.

This is the way to open bottles in the locker room after hockey - but with a puck.
