I tend to get sick of sanding after awhile and prefer to move over to a machine. Do you know of any good mechanical methods of sanding at this grit level?

All my sanding is done with a 3" diameter pistol grip sander with a velcro backing to hold the paper. It is all 3M products and air driven

Tip. Don’t turn these things on until you inspect the internal wiring. The last three drills I took apart were very iffy.










200 grit to start on most parts. Finished with 320 grit to 400 grit before moving to the buffer.









The emblem was very worn out rubber. I decided to try a brushed look and remove it.















I’m still learning a lot from this site. After I sand with 320 or 400 I buff with black compound on a medium buff. Slowly work up the red then white compound. I may make a video on my next project.

I thought this was an interesting brand. It appears to be chrome finished so it will take some work to remove and polish.

It's been a while since I've polished any tools. I found some time yesterday to shine up a couple to add to my brass collection

I have a friend that has been collecting brass tools and stuff for over 50 years and he likes seeing the stuff displayed in the garage so he lets me have what ever I want.

The pliers are sharp looking. Very nice job.

Don, that is just darn cool. It's great to have friends that give free stuff, and even better when you do something like what you have done.

I can only imagine that a display case in my shop would be broken within 24 hours, heck, I worry about the window, but I hope to try my hand at spiffing some stuff up tonight. Stay tuned for pictures.

What is the story behind the adjustable wrenches in the lower right side of the cabinet with the twisted handles?

I have been privileged to have a tour of the party garage. "Collection" is an understatement. Treasure Trove would be more accurate. It is a 6 plus hour drive for me and my bride to make it to Don's neck of the woods, and I will try to swing by for a visit every-time I'm in the area. Fortunatly Don is a gracious host and teacher.

Thanks guys. It was a great old machine but needed some love. I built the new base, stripped and painted the mill, added the DRO to the Z axis and generally cleaned and tuned everything up.

Nothing to contribute at this point, but this has inspired me to up my game on a few Milwaukee tools I've repaired.

If you go on Youtube look up Scoutcrafter. He posts videos of the tools he has refurbed and sometimes he goes the full polish and paint routine on old Ridgid plumbing wrenches for instance.

I got a real nice set of planishing hammers from my uncle and he handmade the handles for these. Seems like I need to treat them to some boiled linseed oil. Not certain but I think he said the handles were pear wood.

That is a pretty hammer. You can tell the handle was crafted with love.
