BEFORE & AFTER....A Tool Polisher's Haven
Hi all,
Little bit of a story here . . . I saw these Mastercraft wrenches posted on a local board. It was a horrible picture, but I was interested because they looked just like a 9-piece set of Stanley wrenches my wife got me 30 years ago. People in Ontario might remember a promotion Shell gas station had in 1990/91, get a fill, get a wrench. My wife got fills, traded dupes, and assembled two full sets, one of which came to me. I love them, they are light in the hand, feel fantastic and are excellent quality.
So I spoke with the seller; he said he bought them in the late 90s, hung them on the wall in his workshop, where they remained. I got them home and they are almost identical to my Stanley set and Stanley did OEM for Canadian Tire/Mastercraft. The finish is not exactly the same, not quite as fine, but for CAD30.00, they are perfect!
Got them home and cleaned up with SimpleGreen, gave them an Evaporust bath, and polished with AutoSol. The came up gleaming; 9 of the wrenches were never used, I could find no marks at all to suggest they had ever been on a nut or bolt. The box end of the 3/4 had a little grease in there, so it had been used. The 3/8, both open and box end had been used, as there was a little grease there too. Other than that, unused. Cleaned the tool roll with SimpleGreen and Meguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner. It is still supple and nary a crack or pull.
There's a couple of comparison shots with a wrench from my Stanley set.
Great fun!
