So what plans do you have with that stuff?

Hey Don , manhole is gonna be a weld table(for now it'll be on a log) and I'll try and put a shine on it. The wrench needs to be cleaned and oiled. There's a shape in that yellow piece I see , it also needs to be polished. The 4.5" half round and the 2.5 "round bar need to be polished.

My Sterling bit grinder. I made the grind stone cover and the mobile base. Sterling have parts and I bought a few bits and pieces. I decided on a two-tone paint and a weather resistant plug at the rear. The grinder and the work light plug in here.

Thanks,

I have a 6L with the bigger (important) 300w heater. The size is perfect (for me), not too big to store away but still able to fit things in it like the vise (taken apart). Recommend Simple Green Extreme Aviation degreaser for it, not harsh on aluminum and does a great job and earth friendly.

Looks identical to this one:
https://www.amazon.com/SHZOND-Ultrasonic-Cleaner-Stainless-Temperature/dp/B07V2QZYXL/ref=sr_1_9?crid=3GK9ZLCC87RRN&dchild=1&keywords=rovsun%2B6l%2Bultrasonic%2Bcleaner&qid=1606340205&sprefix=ROVSUN%2B6L%2Cindustrial%2C217&sr=8-9&th=1

Recently I cleaned a part called the "shorting necklace" out of a vintage Delta RI Bullet motor from a 1941 Unisaw. The black grime felt like black grimey carbon vaseline. I put it in the ultrasonic right after the pic using the SG extreme aviation this is how it came out. The amount of time saved is priceless, imagine the time it would have taken to clean every tiny slot between each copper contact? And I doubt I could have done as well by hand. Would have been a total pain.

The classic before and after

Picked up a Famco 3R arbor press, wasn't in terrible shape but it needed some lovin. Stripped it down, repainted, cleaned & trued the ram & teeth, not sure why they get hammered on, straightened the handle & made up a new anvil. Now it looks good & functions as it should.

I almost bout a similar press. The handle and gear teeth were beat all to hell. It looked like someone was hammering on the handle literally to use it.

I got two rough looking arbor presses for less than $100. I sold the bigger one for $100 and freshened the smaller MANLEY press.
Both presses came with the "ship's wheel". I do not use the wheels.

some amazing work in here guys. This gives me motivation to clean up my old tire machine that was left behind from my new home purchase. Not sure how old it is but I'd say around 30-40 years old

I wish I had your skills, ladies and gentlemen. Some fantastic restorations!!! Your are the doctors of the old machinery!

ISB Cornbinder, I think you might get extra tool money for this wheel (or exchange it for another tool). If I remember correctly, one of the members was restoring an arbor press on this site and the wheel was broken. Sorry, do not remember the size or the brand. I think it was within a year

I didnt finish but I started polishing the aluminum rims that are going on my gasser pedal car.
I powder blasted them then cleaned the nicks with 120 grit then went to 360 grit, I polished a little just to see a some shine, I will probably use some 600 grit then see if it looks ready to polish, still a long way to go.20201029_152843.jpeg20210102_183430.jpeg20210102_183457.jpeg

I will do as you suggested. BYW. Steaks refers to beef meat. The metal forming tool is spelled stake.
I did say that I do not use the "ship's wheel" on my arbor press. I have two wheels. I would give one to any person who can use it. That person will have to wait until after the covid19 lock-down is relaxed. I will not be shipping a wheel. The wheels weigh about 40 pounds, each.
Someone mentioned that they know of a "broken wheel". Both of the wheels I have have a cracked spoke. I have mentioned this to other arbor press owners and they have the same situation. The crack does not bother the function of the wheels. I may put some JB Weld in the cracks.

Exactly. I like to cook and "grill" steaks and I also like to work in metal, specifically silver jewelry.

Many jewelry tool supply companies refer to the metal working tool section as containing "stakes and anvils".

Not a big deal I turned this piece of stainless steel into a door sill plate for my car.

I hate the mess buffing makes in my shop so I went out and got this tent out of my work vehicle, problem solved.

That looks like a T.A. Pelsue ground tent. You must work in the telco industry. I have an advertising button with their tent slogan on it. These tents can be erected very quickly.

Yeah we all know that the CIA, NSA, FBI, and other three letter agencies are in those tents wire tapping and spying on us. :lol_hitti

Yes, they are nice, about 10 seconds form laying on the ground and fully deployed.
Put a 1500 amp heater in it when it's 20 degrees outside and you're in shirt sleeves before you know it.

Almost complete redoing my new 1970 powermatic 30 combo sander. Stripped all the parts to bare metal, straightened & sanded the cabinet & gave it the best rattle can job I could, lol. Had to build up the platen & flatten it, a little work on the rollers, squared it up & it is tracking real nice. The big plus is it being 3 phase & can really dial in the speed to what your sanding with the vfd. The on board transformer still works & I'm thinking of refitting the on board dust collector as the dust collection works great. Still needs the stripe & some badging, I'm not a big fan of the color but now it matches my other pm's.

that's a big machine in what looks to be a compact shop. What do you use it for?

Thanks! It's almost done, waiting for the stripe & dust collector. I couldn't pass it up for 200$ I love fixing up the old iron & putting it back to work. I mostly did wood working but doing more metal lately & this sander lends it's self to both, it's a solid piece & once I make a rolling base it will be easy to move. Hopefully in the next year or two I'm planning to have a bigger shop with dedicated space for wood & metal & can add a few more machines plus a spray & sand blast booth.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this on here before. There is a great Youtube channel that I am sure many of you are aware of but might be helpful to others on techniques and tools to use. Search Scoutcrafter on youtube and you'll be a great chap who polishes rusty old tools into something that looks new. As well as how to disassemble and reassemble. He also covers a lot of great other content. He is one of my favorites on youtube.

You dug up some old pictures
Thanks for the info. Ya I'm looking for inspiration for a couple restoration projects I have going on right now. Naturally I look at your stuff since you are the absolute best at it.

I went to an estate sale today, everything was 50% off. I found several items but the one I'm going to share is this shear.
20210723_162654.jpg
The handle was not for it but with a little cut and a grind or two it is now.
20210723_162717.jpg
I fit the handle to it then stripped everything.
20210723_223921.jpg
Put a coat of hammered gray on it.
20210723_223933.jpg
The handle fit to the pivot and painted.
20210723_223924.jpg
All the little pieces painted.

Let it dry then assemble tomorrow.
