Bench Grinder hunt

I'm looking for decent bench grinder. For home use of mower blades and other little task.
I find a C-Man 6" for $60. and TSC same type a little less a Clark I believe.
What other decent maker for the home owner task is out there.
I like to stay in the $75. or less ballpark.

Also I throw this to justfy the need of getting one.

I had one up until recently. It was a vintage Black & Decker, probably from the 40's. About twice per lawn season I would use it to sharpen my mower blades. It was the 'Junior' model bench grinder but with a nice coarse wheel was plenty for everything I did. Took only a few passes to get the edges sharp.
Unfortunately the brushes wore down and new ones were no longer available. I looked into getting brushes for another motor and modifying them but the only ones that would have worked out were around 40 bucks each so its time for a new grinder.

i have access to all kinds of grinders at work and haven't had one in years...........i hate the dust and debris associated with them and am planning to build a water filter, much like a genie vacuum, as i find it a bit of a pain hauling things back and forth.........any suggestions welcome..........

I have one..its an old black and decker I got when I worked from Caldor free from the jewlery department back in the early 80s, Its junk...you put a 1x1 board on it and it'll stall, hahaha...forget grinding metal. I'm also on the prowl for a new one. Probably going to buy the HF pedestal to match it though.

I have a C-man 8 inch model. Regular price is ~$100 but got it on sale for $49. Works fine but I don't use it for mower blades. I use a Dremel for those.

You cannot have a shop without a bench grinder and a decent vise. I just cannot imagine. Doing much work without both of those to use would be like going into a fight with one hand tied behind your back!

I have three... my main one is a 6' 70's vintage MIJ that works fine and I paid $15.00 for it...IIRC.

I also have a Baldor 6" that has one grinding wheel and one buffing wheel.

The 8" industrial grinder I have is getting ready for a new pedestal stand and is awaiting a new phase converter (3 phase motor).

All three were auction buys...

I also have a vintage 8" belt sander.

One thing you'll find is the size of the housing has little to do with the size of the motor's armature when buying offshore grinders. Most of the housing is empty while a quality motor will be filled with windings. The average Chi-Com grinder is probably half the advertised HP. If you want 1/4 HP buy a 1/2 HP to be safe.

Hey hey! The Baldor king!! Top of the line and nothing less, I guess. And is that one of those Garrett Wade / Lee Neilsen / Veritas ... what do you call them... tool rest under one of them?

I got 1 of the Clark 6" from TSC. It works good and has enough power for the stuff i do (mower blades, sharpening screw drivers and drill bits) Was only 39.00 and is 1/2 horse. You will need to get a wheel dresser if you don't have 1, mine had a vibration when i first started it up and would dance across the floor on it's stand. Dressing the wheels stopped that.

AUTOGUY.......What is the red Proto box in the background wall above red grinder? I have 2 6" C-Man bench grinders and use the wire brush more than the stone. I use a vise a 9" hand held body grinder for ower blades. I would like to add motor and twin buffing wheels to my shop......

A vise and a 4 1/2" angle grinder, at home for lawnmower blades. I have a Orion made Craftsman, that I have a multitool on as well as a wire wheel. I always thought a sander would be more useful, until I find a good old bench grinder.

It is a 1/2 30-150 ft/lb proto torque wrench click type plastic box.

i just use a good 4&1/2'' grinder, good course wheel and then a flap wheel. mower blades arent that hard, so they sharpen easy, and dull easy. i hit my blade ever few weeks, because i mow 6 large lawns with a 26" mower and sharper is better
