Bench Grinder Safety Glass

I used the search function to try and fine the safety glass for a Craftsman 397.19580. I have the frames and they are suitable to rebuild, but where do you get the safety glass?

Any glass shop should be able to cut them for you.

check out this thread that i posted the link below and you'll find plenty of information about your Craftsman "block" grinder. also Tourqueman started a nice thread about where to get parts and some helping tips on a separate thread that might help you too. read and learn more about your grinder and if you can't find your answer by reading a little and doing a little research then post the question there and one of the members that just replaced his might see it and help. i haven't needed any so I don't know much about the replacements source.

My Craftsman blockhead grinder must be a later model(1979) although it has a one piece moulded clear plastic guard that slips over the grinder with screw and wingnut. I'm not sure if these would work for you although might be worth checking out.

Drivesitfar, thanks and I did comb through about 40 pages of that site yesterday, I even tried the search function to find it. I will go through it some more to see if I can find where the parts are.

Davefr, thanks to you too. I have another grinder with those type and one is broken. It's a newer grinder that I use a lot, so I'll get a couple.

Motoretro, thanks to you too. I also have a 70's model Craftsman and the good news is that I haven't broken the safety glass on it yet.

keep reading the thread because a lot of information about your block in there with some good BS when you have time. also find Tourqueman's other threads where he has information and links that are on his first 5 or so posts so just good information before the discussion parts.

also post on the Block thread your question with a few pictures and you might get a quicker answer. when i first saw this thread i was thinking it was for eye glasses and i need another pair of safety glasses with readers in them.

You can make your own safety glass by gluing the two pieces you've cut yourself with E6000. Just put enough in between both pieces to move them around until the air bubbles come out. I found a bunch of tubes of it for a buck each at the local Dollar General.
