BendPak and HD trucks?

So after months of trying to decide which lift I'm going to get in the pole barn, I think I've decided on the BendPak XPR-10ACX (for now). However, I've been reading some reviews that the asymmetrical lifts aren't very good for lifting heavy duty trucks?:headscrat To be honest, I'm to the point now were I've read so many reviews/threads on different lifts, that I just want to purchase one and get it done. The heaviest of vehicles I would ever lift would be a 1 ton, crew cab, dually diesel. Is there any reason why this lift wouldn't be able to accomplish this and more importantly, do it safely without the fear of a catastrophic failure? Keep in mind, I like to save money where I can, but I value my life over my pocketbook.

I'll be lifting anything from muscle cars, to classic trucks and all the way up to 1 ton diesel trucks. This isn't for my job, but more for my hobby/playtime. The lift won't be running every single day for 8 hours a day, but it probably will on weekends.

I know about the Mohawk System 1 lift and even filled out the application for more information on their website. However, I think my heart skipped a beat when I heard the price that I was quoted. Now, that lift it's not out of the question, but after reading some user reviews, I'm not so keen on spending that much money and having those problems.

I just want something that will work, keep me safe and I don't have to worry about it failing. So please experts, lend me your advice.

Thank you,

Kevin

I have an '07 F350 CC dually diesel, long wheel base. It weighs 8200lbs, just for a reference for you. All it has on it is a mostly empty tool box.

I worked at a Ford dealership in high school doing oil changes on sym. lifts. I can tell you that any heavy, long wheel base vehicle is tricky, at first, to position on a two post lift. Once you know how to place the arms, it is fine, but still that uneasy feeling, as it is kind of balancing on there.

I think either could be a problem, it the load was not positioned correctly on the arms.

I remember the mechanics, if they were doing something where they were tugging/pulling on something (removing ******, r&r exhaust, etc.), they would always put tall jack stands under the front and rear to help stablize the vehicle.

I lift my 8200lbs Ford F-350 Crew Cab / Short box with 6.0L diesel no problem and feel safe. That being said, I did purchase some frame cradle adapters after this picture was taken. My dealer ordered them from a supplier that had them custom made to fit the Mohawk style of adapters.

If I plan on keeping the truck up there overnight or for a long period of time, I will put tall jackstands under the truck. Having had some bad experiences when I worked at a dealership, this is now standard operating procedure for me. If I am just doing a quick oil and filter change, I won't bother, but if ripping out a ****** or something like that, jackstands for me it is.

I have a bendpak 10,000 lb asymmetrical model with two ft extension specifically to clear loaded ladder racks and such and i lift 1 ton trucks and 1 ton construction vans full of tools all the time no problem. With long heavy vehicles just position it in the middle so to speak and lift, no big deal. The arms will sag some when fully extended with a big truck but it will work fine.

Is there any possible way to find out if there are any local BendPak distributors near me? I've gone online to the website, but short of calling them up to find out, I haven't seen any other way. Also, I really like the "Turf Kit" that Mohawk sells with their lifts for working on mowers and such. Does BendPak make any similar attachments, or is this something I'm going to have to "MacGyver" on my own?

BTW, I appreciate all the comments thus far. If any of you have any more information, or words of advice for this newbie, please let me know. Also, I forgot to mention that one of the vehicles that will be on the lift many times will be my '74 Jeep CJ5 (aka the off road toy).

I too have been researching the hell out of lifts for quite some time now. I will be buying the BendPak XPR-10ACX too. I read the literature and it claims that this model is both a/symmetric. The largest vehicle I will be lifting is a 2500HD Silverado diesel extended cab. I found a good youtube video showing a guy lifting a Ford diesel and he had no problem whatsoever.

Give em a call they will set you up with dealer. and they have a "mower" style lift option. From their web site:
Get a standard swing arm assembly to easily convert your XPR-7TR turf lift to a regular automotive and light truck lift.

http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/specialty-lifts/XPR-7TR.aspx

Good luck with your lift choice.

So really they don't a "kit" like Mohawk does, but an entire separate lift?:wtf:

This is "Turf Kit" from Mohawk that I'm talking about:

Looks like a simple "slide-on" type kit to me to make maintenance on our lawn equipment quick and easy.

BendPak does have turf attachments. They can be added to our XPR standard (non-asymmetric) two-post models.

You can see it better illustrated here.

Then violla! Just featured in Golf Business.

When I got my Rotary, I explained to them what I had for vehicles. They *strongly* recommended a symmetrical lift for lifting large trucks... Sure it can make getting in and out a bit more difficult (especially with the Hummers!) but I'm much more comfortable with the balance.

And these are the reasons that I'm going insane trying to pick out a lift....:lol_hitti

Here is my vehicle list that will be on the lift:

2009 Chevy 2500HD, Crew Cab, 4x4, Standard Bed, Duramax diesel
2008 Chevy 1500, Extended Cab, 4x4, Standard Bed
2006 Chevy 2500HD, Crew Cab, 4x4, Standard Bed, 6.0L Gas
2006 Nissan Titan, Crew Cab, 4x4, Short Bed
1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ
1974 Jeep CJ5
1951 Dodge B3B Truck

I'm sure the list will grow as more people find out I have a lift and need help, but for now that will give you a general idea of what it is I'm lifting. So, I need a lift (10,000#) that can do all of that safely, easily and reliably...

Well, that list has vehicles I'm familiar with, and I'd be comfortable with the Rotary that I have...

Have you seen a quote for the "Turf Kit". You're heart may skip more than one beat if you haven't.

Hey Peter, are you lost? Didn't I just see you over on the HML?
