I din't have one yet but it's in the plans and I am doing the wiring now. Can someone tell me if it needs a 2 or 3 wire 220V outlet.

You need a neutral and two hots, so 3 wires plus ground. Since you asked this question, I would highly advise you to hire an electrician. It shouldn't cost much and may save your life.

Two hots and a cot.
Who needs an electrician. Do it yourself and save $300. Just make sure you do your homework.

Darkk what does it use the neutral for? I thought you only needed a neutral when there was a portion of the system that needed 110V like a digital readout.

I'm pretty comfortable doing the wiring myself. I've run 3 20amp lines and a 50 amp 220 for the welders already. No problems with those.

I wire my lifts with twistlock pig tails (3 wire). Then I run from the panel above the ceiling and drop it down near the pig tail. The twistlock connection forms my emergency power disconnect.

You ask these questions? And you're comfortable doing the wiring? I'm going to repeat myself, hire an electrician before you kill yourself....
