Bendpak HD9- Hydraulic cylinder ram stuck

Setting up a new HD9 four post lift in the garage and I ran into a snag.
Instructions say to: "2. In order to install the Cables it is necessary to first
extend the Hydraulic Cylinder. Remove both Cylinder port
plugs then use an air gun or come-along to extend the
Cylinder."

Both cylinder port plugs are removed and an air gun wont budge it. I tried a come-along with a strap attached to the ball of a hitch on the truck and the whole lift moved without any movement from the hydraulic cylinder. Anybody have any ideas I can try while waiting for Bendpak to get back to me?

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. The thought to hook up the hydraulics crossed my mind but wasnt 100% sure if I was overlooking something stupid.

I would think the bendpak works the same, when you activate the hydraulic circuit on these kind of lifts it RETRACTS the ram, so don't do that. The ram uses the weight of the car or lift itself to extend and send fluid back to the reservoir.

So you must really pull it out by force. If you can tie the opposite end to a column then you should be able to give it a good squeeze of ratchet strap or come along, instead of towing it with your truck..

Could be stuck due to poor quality control

Just a wild thought here....have you called BP?

I was very busy yesterday so I shot them an email late afternoon, so yes I did make an effort to contact them. Thought I would ask here and get some ideas of what I could try in the mean time.

Thanks for the suggestions, it still wont budge using your method. Will see what they say Monday when I give them a call.

I did the same thing on my BP several years ago...
Simple... mount the cylinder under the runway as the poor instructions try to show you...use a Heavy Commercial Duty come-along ( no Chinese ****)..hook to ram and to end of run way... use heavy chain or good quality steel cable......use your muscles...
Don't be afraid to pull the handle on that come-along hard
Pull the weeny ram out of the cylinder.
