Yes, but it will be big like the current one. I have all of the existing ones and they all serve their need. I like my M18 3/8 Fuel. It will do lug nuts in warm weather on my cars and much of the mechanical work I do. I have the mid and big 1/2 Fuels if I need more and I sometimes go. I tend to reach for the tool based on the weight that will get the job done. And for those who want just one tool, if your needs are just project oriented rather than daily professional use, you can always use a breaker bar to break the bolt or nut free and then use the impact. HF sells breaker bars cheap and their new long handle flex head 72 tooth ratchets are pretty good and give you more leverage than an old style short handle ratchet when you have the space to use them.

I bought one of these Makitas. Hasn't let me down though it's strained a few times. Though it's huge and heavy and tough to fit in tight spaces. Especially with a 4.5ah battery.

I also just picked this Kolbalt 3/8 up yesterday for tighter areas. Haven't tried it yet. I'm on the fence with it though since I own mostly Makita and have tons of Makita batteries. Didn't want to get into another battery, charger purchasing game. Though $10 for a 1.5ah isn't bad.c7498fe588b3346599d3501b894870b7.jpg481459d5c964f434b054d2212b686b36.jpg

Because generally you just buy 1/2" impact sockets and you will just about never encounter a bolt on a car that can even take that much torque without shearing. Crank bolt is all I can think of, and it's too tight to get anything in there that isn't an air tool anyway.

What does matter everyday is ergonomics, weight, and vibration.

Have you never seen rust

At my shop I normally use my 14.4 volt Panasonic. It will do most everything I want, but when I need more power I pull out an air impact.

At home I have my M28 Milwaukee impact, which has been a beast for me - mostly used for changing and rotating tires.

The V28 stuff is now 11 years old, Still works fine, but I've been slowly replacing it with Makita 18V. Last week I sprung for that Makita High torque impact shown in the photo above. Wow - that thing feels more powerful and tighter than my IR composite air gun. It's pretty big and heavy, but it feels like it will knock anything off. I think I'll take it over to the shop and run it on some heavy stuff for awhile.

And just think - that the new gen2 m18 Milwaukee is even stronger..

I'm in the market for a new cordless impact, size is more important than power. I have the M18-fuel 1/2" impact with 5 amp batteries but its size and weight makes it difficult often to get into confined spaces. I have a compact pneumatic 1/2" that I love its working torque is 550lbft is 1.3kg and 15.5cm long. I like Milwaukee so I'm gonna check out their 3/8" guns as I have deep & shallow impact sockets, wobble impact extensions already. I'd be happy with an honest 200ish ft lbs.

Sorry, not buying Milwaukee 18V, since they screwed over all the people who bought the V18 and V28's - just a few years after they brought them out. I'm sure they are great tools,

I'll happily go with Makita.

The thing about cordless as compared to air tools is that the electric guns tend to be bigger.

All of these high torque guns, for example, are 10+" long, severely limiting their use. I have a corded impact like this, which works fine, but I need a smaller unit.

Anyone know who makes Kobalt units?

For mid-torque, short cordless impacts, that is price competitive with Harbor Freight and more powerful than anything but the Milwaukee 2861, which is 3 times the price and almost 1" longer..

The Kobalt is made by Chevron. The one pictured has 200 ft lbs. They make a 3/8 compact version similar in size that's 150 ft lb. They also make a heavy duty 1/2 rated at 650 ft lbs. I have the heavy duty one and it is impressive for the money ($250 w/charger & 4.0 battery). Same Warranty as Milwaukee (5yr tool/3 yr battery) and cheap battery prices. 1.5 $10, 2.0 $20, 4.0 $50, 5.0 $80.

Might need 2 hands if it gets big and heavy enough . . . .
