Only 2 reasons to ever be caught dead walking into a Harbor Freight and the goodyear hose is one of them.

Unfortunately Harbor Freight no longer sells those Goodyear hoses. I stopped in there to pickup a second Pliovic 50ft 3/8" Goodyear hose and they were completely gone. And to top it off, the store manager informed me that they no longer sell Goodyear hoses.

Soo.... does anyone have some suggestions on a decent 50ft hose under $40? I need 1/4" threaded ends and 3/8" ID. It's used in my garage and since I do use it quite a bit with my HVLP gun, a lighter hose would be preferred.

Worst case scenario, I can always get a 25ft better quality hose and put one of my harbor freight pliovic goodyear hoses between the new hose and the compressor filter.

This 50ft Amflo seems to get good reviews at HD: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Amflo-3-...r-Hose-577-50A/202205329?N=5yc1vZc29mZ1z10z8a
Plus it's in stock right now.

Or for $35.99 i can grab a 50ft FlexZilla 3/8" ID hose down at Sears.

I wish I would have seen the nice reviews about Flexzilla before I ordered, but I just got a 3/8" 50' Goodyear from Amazon for $33. I might end up cancelling that order though.

I bought Flexeel at our Parker dealer... Not as flexible as Flexzilla but it's far lighter and wipes clean with a rag. USA made too.

Thanks Ruger, I just cancelled my order and bought the Flexeel pictured above from Amazon instead. Now I need to keep my eye out for a hose reel on the cheap.

I only use black or yellow good year in my shop due to a bad experience !
When welding or cutting other hoses will explode if a piece of red hot metal falls on them however I use other hoses in my van .
Different hoses for different jobs
If u work on cars good year
If ur a wood worker those clear blue ones

Yes, -If you want some quality stuff, like Good year F5 or Gorilla hose. I know where to get that stuff by the foot. What kind of hose are you looking for ?

I used to get short sections of hose made up for connecting compressors from the local hydraulic hose place. I beleive they used parker hoses.

My old job I swore by the good year hoses harbor freight used to have. I'd go there whenever they had a sale on em and bought a few. Well, now they don't sell them. At home I have a legacy air reel with the stock hose on it. Which has been great. Of course I pull it out when I need it, but don't let it sit around on the ground when I don't. it's held up good to occasional use but is stiffer than the goodyear hoses.

My side job has a cheap harbor freight air reel, which has been surprisingly good. The hose on it has gotten abused, and a year later is still going strong with no bubbling at the ends. I also got the 1/2 line for the big guns from harbor freight which is nice and plyable and easy to wipe off.

I've used Goodyear hose for years but I recently picked up some "Tundra" (yellow) hose from Princess Auto and really like it. I was looking at it in the store and on 2 separate occassions other customers came up to me and told me how good it is. They were right. It's great and is extremely flexible in the cold.

what he said. I have hundreds of feet of Tundra . very flexible even way below freezing. light, easily wound up. never had a failed hose .

Prevost with the swivel coupler , the best!

Prevost makes hoses? I use their safety couplers on everything. I love them, no more tools blasting off from my hands.

I bought a red Parker hose years ago due to this thread. It's been great, flexible in cold weather (Minnesota).

Parker has their own safety couplers (Made in Israel) that I like better than the Prevost.

i have about 6 50 foot flexzillas with the field fixable ends. i love them. they get dirty easily but they dont kink or get hard. i had a semi truck parked on the air line for 2 days. and it didnt hurt it at all. i also ordered a 250 bulk hose on ebay and about 8 ends so i could make my own flexzillas. i have one hose at home thats about 125 foot on the front outside of my shop.

I notice Princess Auto carries Flezilla whip hose.

I have a bunch of Arctic brand, bright yellow, hose from PA. I like it pretty good and it's far nicer than the heavy red rubber hoses I had been using. They have switched to Diamond flex which is better still, though. I look forward to trying a Flexzilla, based on recommendations in this thread.

Hello, Beta Testers!

Just wanted to see if we have some long term reviews from your end. It's been a while since you got them and we did get initial impressions but how has it been working long term? We'd love to incorporate your feedback.

And everyone else, BluBird hoses have been on Amazon for a while and they've been doing great. Check them out and let us know :)

For the uninitiated, BluBirds are the lightest all-rubber air hoses on the market, as light as hybrids (like Flexzilla) but better in almost every other sense (like cold-weather and welding splatter resistance and easy to clean). Not to forget the 10 year warranties :)

Bought a BluBird hose reel a while back from Menards and it's working great! I don't use it that often and am really easy on it, but no issues to speak of.

Another vote for Flexzilla. FWIW put up a Legacy hose reel with Flexzilla preloaded. Went to use it and long story short the hole wasn't drilled through in the banjo fitting.

I've had a 50' 3/8" Flexzilla hose for over a year now and liked it so much, I bought a 100' 3/8" Flexzilla hose on a manual reel recently and finished installing it today. Turning the crank for about 10 seconds really beats coiling up two 50' hoses by hand! I will say it DID leak out of the box, the hose was not properly sealed/tightened at the swivel fitting. Annoying, but nothing a few inches of Teflon tape and a couple minutes with a wrench couldn't fix.

Exactly why do you prefer them over the Prevost? Did you use the Prevost safety couplers that won't allow removal unless the pressure is fully released?

And which model Parker do you use? I see a number of them in this pdf (parker's site is down at the moment). Search for "exhaust".

Hoses like tires wear out. It's not a lifetime item. The more they are exposed to weather and sunlight the faster they decompose. I hate anything other than a rubber hose because I hate the stiffness of the coated hose.

Curiously enough, I have some air hoses on the tool truck that are Snap-On branded with LIFE-TIME warranty!

IIRC, 50 ft is about $85

I have a couple red rubber I had to fix the whip end along with a balck, both are well north of 25 years, the black was outside and charged on a reel for 20, mostly HF. I don't drive over them either. I have some vinal too, while they are hard they work well in warm shop and last long time, never fixed one from normal wear. I don't mind they are stiff. I use a fair amount of Goodyear blue too, they have been good. I havnt bought a new air hose in at least 20 years, they are charged 24/7.
