There is one huge problem with most hand cleaners, clogs up septic systems.I have a sample of some powdery stuff my Matco tool dealer gave me to try and have not done this yet.If my hands are really dirty,to the parts washer first, gets most of the dirt and grit off.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Goop, has been around forever and works pretty well. Can get it at Big Lots for a buck. At work we get Cintas stuff that is REALLY gritty but works well. For a dollar I'll keep getting the tub of Goop

Nitrile gloves! After that I like Cherry Bomb, or any other Zep pumice soap to get the tough grime off. But that stuff does dry out my hands. My wife was an Avon lady though, so she can help keep my hands soft, :) At home I like Goop or fast orange, they work well.

Stoko Kresto. Its the most aggressive pumice cleaner i've found.

We have Stoko Kresto at work and it works very nicely. I think for the price you found I may have to buy a bottle of that for home.

I have always liked the Fast Orange stuff for my home garage. Seems to work pretty darn good to me plus it rinses off easily and doesn't leave that smelly, greasy feeling of Gojo. Blah:puke:

I have used regular powrkleen for years. They have both the smooth and the gritty stuff. Never really found anything that worked better. also the goop stuff is pretty good for the money.

i have been an electrician for 17 years. on almost every job, the fast orange wipes are in the gang box. i do not know if they are the best, but they work pretty good.

i have a bathroom in my garage, and i will probably just put a thing of gojo in it.

Gloves if you can work in them, but when you can't Worx powder works very well and does not damage your hands. The Snap-on Nitro-Gold for heavy grease and Stoko Cupran for paint. I do like to keep the Gojo Hand wipes on my tool cart for quick cleaning, but I'm never without the all important blue glass cleaner for that quick I need it quick cleaning.

At my previous job, we used Zep TKO (might be the same as other Zep stuff previously mentioned, don't know for sure). It washed off pretty much everything except tattoos, had no overpowering "fruity" or "chemically" scent, left no residue, and didn't dry out your hands. Wasn't the cheapest stuff per gallon, but you also used less than half of what it took with other stuff.

Before it was banned, they used to use trichlor (sp?) 1.1.1. on the really nasty stuff. Luckily that was quite a few years before I started, and before anybody realized it was bad, so all but one that used it are still alive.

gloves and fast orange! I love atlast streach fit and thermofit gloves and at work I get half a gal of the paste fast orange for 3 bux. I like the paste better because the pump heads on my gojo gallons always seem to quit working. and I like the thickness of the paste seems to help it stick to my hands and break down the grease and dirt.

Thanks

Another vote for Boraxo. Works on darned near everything, and is relatively benign in environmental impact. (When you get your water from a well, you pay attention to such things.)

the best hand cleaner around [and been around for a loooooooooooooooong time] is just plain old fried chicken grease.

I know it sounds stupid but it does work and does not dry out your skin:bowdown:

TRY IT THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE FRIED CHICKEN--then you can see for yourself.

That is why us redneck mechanics have lots of FRIED CHICKEN around !!!

Momma always said to wash your hands before dinner, not use dinner to wash your hands:lol_hitti

I first spray my hands with WD-40 and then use Tide powered soap and warm water... I have yet to find anything that combination won't remove, including spray paints.

Yep, ditto on Goop. For really nasty hands, I will use Boraxo first, followed by Goop.

I guess I'm the only one that likes Fast Orange. I don't like GoJo because it leaves your hands greasy and has a strange smell. YMMV.

Works damn good on just about any dirt, grease paint etc. I even cleaned up my nasty plastic laundry tub with it. (Disclaimer it's probably very abrasive, so I wouldn't recommend it's use on fiberglass sinks or anything else where scratches would show or the finish could be dulled.)

Just about any of the oatmeal based hand cleaners. Orange Glow, GoJo, Cherrybomb, etc..... dry my hands out. I also like to use any of the good scented liquid soaps that my wife gets from Bath & Body, :supergay: they remove the funky mechanic odor that we all get. They work very well to remove the odor of stale gasoline too!! :bounce:

My favorite cleaners are Snap-on Nitro Gold, or the green pumice stuff from Wurth. Both do a good job of cleaning and don't leave a bad after-smell.

Before starting work I apply some skin protectant on my hands. Either Ai B-4 brand, or the stuff from Mac (the Mac stuff leaves your hands feeling a little slippery though). It keeps my hands from getting stained and supposed to keep chemicals from soaking into your skin.

For portable cleanups after field service or the junkyard, use Costco Baby Wipes. Nice pop up container, fairly tough fabric. Does a nice job, you'll be surprised. I have to have presentable clean fingernails at work and if you work a baby wipe under the nail it gets squeaky clean. And you can have a pack of 'em in your truck, many uses....

At home, if soap won't do it, I'll rub a teaspoon or so of cooking oil (usually extra virgin olive oil, fancy, eh?) into my hand and work it into the grease stains, loosens them right up, then soap and water. Doesn't tear up the hands the way the more aggressive cleaners do.

For those of you who don't like the smell of your hands after various grease and oil smells (for me it is that dark sulphur oil I use when cutting on my mill) have your wife or kid peel an orange for you, then rip the orange rhind with your hands and smush it around your fingers.

Lemon juice is good too.

what are all you weirdos doing cleaning your hands?

Let me guess....,...are you still single and not dating anyone??

Most ladies don't like getting a massage from hands that feel like sandpaper and smell like burnt ****** fluid and gear lube. It might be more manly to you to not clean your hands but you can sleep alone a lot that way....

Snap On Nitro Gold is the best I ever used. It's expensive so I only use it if I get really greasy or when I clean up to go home for the day. During the day I use Lava soap with pumice. The Snap On Nitro Gold cleans your hand without a trace of grease or grime. Diesel fuel works good tooo but the smell will chase everyone away from you.
