Snap On Nitro Gold is the best I ever used. It's expensive so I only use it if I get really greasy or when I clean up to go home for the day. During the day I use Lava soap with pumice. The Snap On Nitro Gold cleans your hand without a trace of grease or grime. Diesel fuel works good tooo but the smell will chase everyone away from you.

I have a jug of "Goop" on top of the tool box but a dispenser with Nitro Gold is on the wall before you go into the house. I like the Nitro and it does the best job of anything I've tried but, like you said, it is a little on the expensive side. Most of the time I use the Goop but if I'm really dirty or getting ready to quit for the day, I use the Nitro Gold.

My shop uses MOC Products for the flushes and other specialty type services, and MOC makes this orange based cleaner that is the absolute best stuff I've ever seen. It smells great, is only lightly pumiced, and cleans the grease off with barely any action required. I'm sure it's the same stuff as one or two things listed here, but I wouldn't use anything else.

The MOC guy couldn't tell me who makes it, as there are no labels on the jug and he gets all his stuff from the distributor.

I first spray my hands with WD-40 and then use Tide powered soap and warm water... I have yet to find anything that combination won't remove, including spray paints.

i dont bother with the wd 40 but tide cuts through everything
old school mechanic i know had a box of it on top of the crapper in his shop, it cuts through dirt funk and grease like youd never believe. Unfortunately if you have any cuts on your hands it burns pretty good too. Ive got goop and dawn in the bathroom and at the sink, but i use the laundry detergent more frequently, less muss less fuss
we have some fancy **** at work with walnut shells and a nice orange scent with lotion built it, its fantastic. Cuts through pretty well, just isnt as through or fast as the Tide

call me lucky i guess, but my old lady likes me dirty.

Call me even more so, as mine not only likes me dirty, but the only massaging done is by her, nightly.

Gojo or Lava works good enough for me.

another vote for prosoap, but i find myself using my shop neighbor's snap on turbo cleaner or whatever its called a lot. It's a soy based cleaner and smells great. Really dissolves grease.

Before starting work I apply some skin protectant on my hands. Either Ai B-4 brand, or the stuff from Mac (the Mac stuff leaves your hands feeling a little slippery though). It keeps my hands from getting stained and supposed to keep chemicals from soaking into your skin.

x2 i use glove in a bottle it saves a lot of wear and tear on the hands and like Honda says it blocks chemicals from getting into your bloodstream

i'm a field service tech, to get the top couple of layers of crud off i use brake cleaner, after i get home the best grease cutter ive found is dawn dish deteregent.

I second that. No greasy feeling. No smell. Cuts right through the grit and grime. Cheap too.

I would never use brake clean or any other type of aerosol spray you use in the shop to clean my hands. At best they will just really dry out your skin, but they could also screw you up a lot worse too, who knows what's in their absorbing through your skin. If your in the field, just use the wipes and do a final clean later somewhere else.

Best hand cleaner ever: Teaspoon or so each of granulated sugar and Palmolive/Dawn/etc dish soap. Scrub 'em together and then scrub hands furiously. Hands look newborn when done. Doesn't get under the nails, though.

TKO from Zep. I got it at work, my shop and the house. Works awesome and cuts grease easy. Only problem, it comes by the gallon.

Well I tried goop in the small can, that stuff really *****. Cleaners that worked for me on dirt and grease etc ,are Permatex Ultra Cherry, Permatex Fast Orange, GoJo Natural Orange, and Lava Soap. Those are easily available, cheap, Made in USA, and work just as good if not better than your more expensive brands. They smell so good too .

PINERITE soap!!

I have tried them all and they either leave a residue or I wind up with "mechanics hands" by January of each winter.

Found this stuff awhile back and will not use anything else. Talked with the founder of the company and gave it a try. And it is cheaper to use cause your buying all ingredients not water or solvents. And its good for the environment. I'm sold on this stuff cause it really works and my wife likes my hands now.

Anyone remember Quickee waterless hand cleaner? It came in a metal can and was a pinkish gel that smelled horrible, but if I were to smell it today it would instantly take me back to my childhood in the early 60s, learning about wrenching from my Dad.
There's currently an original can of it for sale on the Ebay German site, of all things!

Cheers,
Paul

Stoko Kresto. Its the most aggressive pumice cleaner i've found.

+1
Best soap I have tried. People say anything with a pumice/grit will do...wrong. Only problem is it isn't sold in many local places. I have found it at a local TruckPro but expensive. For decent prices order online.

I was using this Blue stuff from Lowes called EZ-Clean I believe. It worked really well but Lowes has a habit of stocking it for a while and the stopping. Recently I ordered the free sample from Jack Manufacturing of their all natural Hand Cleaner. It works really well. I plan on buying that and using it for a while.

I used to use gojo or Fast Orange or whatever other pumice cleaner I could find.

Then I read about Kresto on here and tried some. It's way better than anything else I've used. It uses walnut shells for abrasive and doesn't seem to dry your hands out bad, but it does get them clean. Downside is it is pretty expensive. .

I've never had any issues with Fast Orange. Takes off whatever. I have seen some guys in the fab shop complain about it, but they're usually the ones using it like normal soap instead of not using water until their hands are clean.

I use orange Go Jo.It works just fine and makes my hands feel good. My niece used to make home made lye soap, that really worked well, but after a while I noticed my hands going away, not good! Ken.

We have Zep cherry bomb at work. Love the smell and seems to work pretty decently.

I think I'm going to hunt down those wipes to keep on my cart at work for when I need to get my hands clean quick but don't have the time to run to the sink.

Use Fast Orange at home.

Used to use gojo at work and we switched to worx. It's all natural and works really good and no oily residue. Doesn't dry your skin out either.

63Savoy has got it right!! PineRite soap powder is the best hand-cleaner ever sold, period! It's hard to describe all of it's good qualities, but the one I find the best is the way it rinses off nearly instantly when your hands are clean and when it is gone it is truly gone, every bit of it rinses away easily with just warm water and there is no film, no residue whatever.....VERY pleasant to use. It was originally developed at the request of a printer who could not find a cleaner that satisfied his needs........'nuf said!! Everyone I've told about it feels as enthusiastic about it as I am long before their first jar is used up.

Any body ever noticed that after you've gone fishing and handling slimy fish that any grease/dirt is completely gone? I suppose that it would be hard to package

I went to help a guy from work in his garage. All he had was this foam stuff that's in a shaving cream sort of can. When you use it, it's not what I expected. It caused dry rubbery pellets to form when rubbing my hands together and they fell to the floor. No idea what it was called but it really worked (my hands were filthy). He said he got the stuff at Wally World ... Anyone know what it's called?
