Honestly, I don't know diddly about what makes a great Axe. I just don't have a need for one... That said, I know a lot about great marketing, design, and communication. If...

Everybody needs an axe, it just a matter of time until you need to do some choppin' best to be prepared, also they look cool and will scare the **** out of a burglar, unless he/she has a gun, so you should have an axe and a gun, apparently some one has already foreseen that situation, the axe gun:

At least they put the axe on the muzzle end. Other way round might not be so good. ;)

I found it to be confusing and weird too - seems to me a good website would tout the qualities of their product and explain why you should buy it... there's nothing there that talks about materials, design, the kind of steel used - what makes your product better or worthwhile? For all I can tell from that, they're buying generic axeheads by the hundredweight and putting colored handles on them... Very strange.

Zrexxer,

I agree. I took the site to be for those that collect axes but just collect to say they do type thing?

Exactly what I'm getting at... Gorgeous presentation... but it leaves you wondering who they are targeting. Obviously, they aren't going after folks like most of you.

From a design standpoint, I love the site... and the imagery...

I carry an axe in my truck. Razor sharp too. Not artistic or high priced, but the metal is good enough to put a razor edge on. Wont win a gunfight but will win every knife & club fight!

These are at the extreme end of the scale, but they're only another product that, from 'tactical' laptop cases, through outdoor clothing far too costly to use outside the suburbs, to beautifully crafted knives of little or no utility, target men who seek an image of self-reliance and rugged individualism wholly at odds with the reality of their daily lives. A group which, at least from this jaded outsider's viewpoint, is not short of members in contemporary America.

Given the target audience, I'm surprised the axe handle doesn't say "Hold this end"

If I'm spending anywhere near $200 for an axe, Gransfors Bruks is my choice.

Well, I would agree that it takes "courage" to charge 95 bucks for a red woolen cap.
+1 on Gransfors Bruks.

Thats got to be the stupidest website/product/gimic I've ever seen. The best I could tell the custom made aspect appears to be "polishing" the head an painting the handle. They actually state nothing about how its actually made, by whom or where. It appears painting the handle and running the head on a buffer is what they consider "making" it.

They're charging $95 for a hat. I think that pretty much sums it up for me. When I could get 4 hats from Burton for that price (and I think they're pricey as well, but comfortable and rugged for what I need), I think I'll stick with companies without delusions of grandeur.

Theyr'e selling an aesthetic, not an axe.

It reminds me of Falcon Motorcycles, and probably works on the same business model... "sell 8 of the things then retire"

Patrick Bateman must have paid $1000 for that ax, considering a polished one with a painted handle cost $400, and from the looks of the website it looks like Christian Bale`s character is their target audience.

Anyone else notice the grain in the handles on some of those axes? half of them look like they'd break the first time it was abused a bit.

Also, theres none of the info that you would usually look for when buying an axe.. weight, type (splitting, brush, pack) length, etc.

Great! All we need are emos buying axes. I doubt they'd be much of a threat though as most are too weak or depressed to swing one anyway. They'd probably just use one to cut themselves. Surprised I don't see a Hello Kitty version.

but I do get why you posted Ryan. I love the layout and aesthetics of the site despite how I view the prices or products.

Geez. I have an old Gerber Axe that I have had for a good while it holds and edge and I don't worry about it riding around in the Suburban. And if I loose it I got it for $40 bucks at a closeout sale.
