Best NO Skip Wrench Set

I’m looking to upgrade my HF Pittsburgh wrench sets both SAE and Metric. Looking for suggestions on the best non-ratcheting and no skip wrench set. Trying to stay under $150 per set as these will strictly be used at home. Thanks for the advice.

Since it’s for home use I’d say Craftsman. I’ve got a complete set of metric from 7-18 and I bought the 6 separately since I use it sometimes and of course I got a 19 too. But for the money it’s the best no skip set I’d say. I think it was around $25-$30 I bought mine when it was still Sears stuff but Lowe’s has the same set. They offer the same in SAE as well. I know a lot of people don’t like the new stuff but it’s actually not bad.

out of curiosity, when you say "no skip" are you meaning the standard 1/4 - 7/8 sizes or 5/32 - 1" by 32nds...?

A second vote for Tekton. You can pick up their 1/4" to 1-1/4" and 6-24mm combo 38 piece set for $185, or swap out the 6-24mm portion of the combo to their 6-32mm 46 piece set for $250. They'll kick $18.50 or $25.00 towards future Tekton purchases and their warranty is one of the best out there. The COO on these wrench sets are Taiwan.

Could check out the non ratcheting Gearwrench 44pc set also. Not sure how it compares in price to the Tekton set mentioned above though. I use the GW set quite often in my road box.

What about used?

Wright has several sets that might fit your needs, though you would have to purchase 2 metric wrenches separately (16 & 18mm). Try ebay, amazon and HJE

Husky 24 piece. SAE and metric, no skips and it costs about $50.

USAG 440 series with 7,8,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,22,24mm can be had just a bit over your budget. Features-wise, they're a good set of wrenches.

Wright all the way. No skips in metric and SAE up to really big sizes. More importantly they are quality with a warranty.

Another vote for Wrightgrip 2.0s in 7-24mm, when I bought my set.

Not only no-skips, plenty of other additional sizes available hanging on the rack. Cheap and abusable. Good "Hammer-Grade" wrenches if you need a slug wrench in a pinch.
Not to mention they are of good quality and easily replaceable. I was a Craftsman guy for a long, long time but Ive really come to favor Husky these days.

I have a lot of wrench set now that I think up it. An 80s and 2000 sets of snap ons, metric SK, late 90's USA craftsman, hazet metrics, proto inches and wrightgrips. Also a few odd williams wrenches. I also have a set of tekton at work. Favorite, wright grip 2.0, even prefer them to the snappies. The wrightgrip 2.0 open end is just as good on rusty fasteners as the flank drive plus wrenches

Tekton would be my favorite import. They will still spread on open end side like any non flank drive style wrench will. They are still Decent quality.

To Hell with the Chinese lobster claw craftsman they now sell. They ****. The 90's usa ones were acceptable.

I do not have any Tekton combination wrenches, so cannot comment on them. I do have a lot of Tekton tools, mainly impact sockets and pliers, great warranty, I might add.

I have a set of Gearwrench in 12 pt metric made in Taiwan, good wrenches but prefer my Armstrong wrenches. I have several Carlyle in 6 point metric, great wrenches, a bit pricey, better value when on sale. Most if not all of my wrenches are Armstrong, KD, Allen and old and newer Craftsman (newer Craftsman in road bag in the truck of my car for road repairs). Also have older professional NAPA wrenches (Danaher made), a set of Channellock with non-slip open end in metric (7 to 19mm), really like these, older Urrea in metric (I like these because they are somewhat thin and short for a comb wrench), a few Proto in SAE, Toptol extra long (10 to 19mm) great wrenches, sometimes too long. Have a few Snap-On and Mac, Matco specially wrenches, mostly bought used for specific purposes.

For a DIYer I have way to many combination wrenches, but my favorite are my Armstrong wrenches in SAE and Metric, chrome and satin, regular and long (wow I have 7 sets of Armstrong plan jane 12 point combination wrenches, I really need to stop buying Armstrong wrenches).

Considering today what is still available (Armstrong killed off), I would either pick Carlyle when on sale, Gearwrench made in Taiwan (if still available), or Channellock with the non-slip open end (similar to Carlyle and the older Dewalt with non-slip open end). If not interested in wrenches with "teeth" Carlyle makes regular combination wrench without the non-slip open end. Tekton would be ok too, but probably not my first choice.

Have you searched Ebay. Not to long ago I saw a nice set of metric Blackhawk USA made combination wrench set for not much money if you are looking for a USA made set.

About two years ago, I bought complete set of Metric/SAE combo wrenches from Wiha. They were on crazy sale. $89 for 24 wrenches.

The SKU is 30495. Made in Taiwan.

I think they're out there for around $150 now. Plenty good for a home gamer. The polished finish is tip top.
