I carry either my Hele 5 inch blade, or one of my Mora knives. Does anyone know of any better quality knives out there. These Mora and heles have been the best I have found yet.
My cottage on Muskoka Ontario.A 5" blade? Where the heck do you carry that thing without getting arrested?
I didn't have a price in mind. I guess up to 200, but I don't like spyderco , and I go for quality, not looks. The Hele has both quality and looks. That's why I bought it.I'll ask so that no one else needs to: How much do you want to spend?
Utilitarian is what I like. Quality steel (carbon steel if I can) and for a reasonable price. I'll have to have a look at the brands you mentioned.Bark River. $150-$350, excellent quality, excellent steels, huge choice of handle materials, no "custom shop" waiting time.
For a little less money, Knives of Alaska is quality stuff, but more utilitarian. $80-$150
Those knives of Alaska look like great working knives. Some people collect, but I use. If it doesn't function efficiently, I don't want it.Bark River. $150-$350, excellent quality, excellent steels, huge choice of handle materials, no "custom shop" waiting time.

Becker knives and ESEE RAT knives are pretty damn good knives for utilitarian use.
There are legions of quality knives for under $200. I'll second the Bark River recommendation ("Barkies"). Ontario Knives also makes some good ones, as does Buck. For some inexpensive, yet surprisingly good, albeit ugly, knives, look at Condor.
I love my ESEE4.

No way. It is just a tool for the cottage, when I'm out cutting down trees etc. I use it for general purpose cutting.I assume the knife is for self defense, if a working knife, get a multi tool. Leatherman. Self defense, buy a pistol. Just sayin.
