I also bet they have a black finish instead of chrome. If I am not mistaken all of the black finish Proto wrenches are imported..

All of the black and the non "I beam" style that are polished are from Taiwan. They offer larger sizes in those wrenches, but not in the US made ones. I do not understand that at all.

Are the Facom from 19th Century open end wise or they have some grippy design there?

Facom 467 has a regular open end, but they has a new version with ratchet action in the open end! European brands doesnt seems to be so interesting to made a "flankdrive plus open end". That is something I is miss on the euro wrenches:(

I have both fixed and flex head GearWrench in SAE and Metric and have had no problems in several years of pushing on them.

I have the Blue point wrenches in Metric and SAE. I plan on upgrading to Proto. I was going to go with SO but the Proto's are very nice and make more sense for me due to price and size options

Do you guys use a conventional wrench to break loose a tight fastener and then switch to a ratcheting wrench to remove?

Are ratcheting wrenches only for light use?

I used to have Gearwrench but once I got my first set of Facom ratcheting spanners I ended up selling the Gearwrenches and buying 4 sets of Facom ratcheting spanners.

6-24mm reversible
6-19mm zero offset
8-19mm flex head
8-17mm stubby reversible

The Facom's are in a different league compared to all the others I've used. They really are that good IMHO.

I've got gearwrench reversables and gearwrench 0 degree offset stubbies. I love both of them and use them professionally.

Same here, but my flexhead gearwrench aren't revesibles. You've gotta consider what'll happen so you don't back yourself into a tight spot

Does anyone know if Gearwrench makes a reversible ratchet wrench with a flex head? I searched and searched but could not them.

Do they make PROTO ratchet wrenches in metric and SAE? I see your set is spline drive, I'm looking for NON-spline, USA made ratchet wrenches...

Those are metric and SAE sets. Unfortunately they do not have any USA made ratcheting wrenches that are 12 point. They have them in the imported version, I have heard mixed reviews about those. Why are you concerned about the spline style? The only issues I can see is if you have a rusty fastener, they can get caught in the spline, but that happens with any style, at least with the spline they do not slip or round off.

I too have the GW 0 offset and I don't like them because of the lack of knuckle clearance but I own the Facom 467 and they are GREAT!! :) In fact I own a few Facom tools and they are all Excellent tools in quality and finish.

It depends on the wrench, I use my proto's like a regular wrench unless it won't fit. The box ends are much larger than a standard wrench. I would say any of the reversible wrenches could have issues when apply a lot of force. Almost all of the brands that are not reversible seem to hold up very well to that kind of use.

I have the GW flexheads metric set I purchased from Amazon. Retaining collar on the 15mm ratchet end came off straight out of the box. Took APEX 30 days to replace it under warranty. So if you make a living with your tools you may want to source them locally with someone who can replace them quickly.

That is why I buy a lot of things from snap on, the warranty is much better to deal with. I have a wrench that apex has had for about three weeks myself. No one local stocked the wrench I needed. I figured it would be quick and easy warranty, Heck when I sent my fisher space pens in for warranty they had them back to my door about a week after I mailed them out. I thought that was good service, apparently Apex is more of a slow turn around kind of place. It wasn't like the wrench was abused, the flex end was flopping free and you could not tighten the screw, I actually broke a couple allen wrenches trying.

I'm all sae at work my 5/16 through 3/4 are gearwrench sold through Sears with the cap stop, and my 13/16 through 1 1/4 are Blackhawk. I'd really love to upgrade to an American made set up to 3/4 and then buy individuals of the larger ones that get used. I'm thinking Armstrong for the set and Proto for the singles. I just can't see spending that much money on the whole set of proto when I only use three of the larger wrenches and the smaller side of the proto set is packed with wrenches I'll never use.

Love my facom ratchets , they are the best ive had to date. I ve had gearwrench and blue point both failed on ratchets after a couple of years work, normally 10,13,15 and 17 would jam or slip. These are now 3 years old and as good as the day i purchased them, and they are my go to spanners
This is when i first got them

this is now

they are great never fail and always at hand. Think merbi also bought a set.

I see you have the old version of facom ratcheting wrenches, perhaps you know if they has the same mechanism like the new version? Only curious what the difference is because they look like a complete other wrench to my 467:)

Facom 467! Very slim design! I adore these wrenches because of their very low arc swing and a thin ratchet head design! The satinfinish is great to, not like stahlwilles, but better than polished chrome that is like a wet soap in your hands:) I dont get the idea to build a tool so slippery...I know its a benefit when you are cleaning it, but i doesnt se any problem at all to clean my satin tools, little harder to vipe clean maybe.

Any suggestions on best place to buy Facom? I am specifically interested in the 467AS. Thanks!

I really like the matco flex head ratcheting wrenches, but really like alden for an open ended ratcheting design. The alden open end, uses a spring loaded head and pivots. Haven't had any issues with em, and use them prob more than I should.

I really like the Craftsman Industrial ratcheting wrenches. They are Made in USA and also come in locking flex and stubby locking flex. I just ordered the rest of the stubby locking flex wrenches to complete my set, can't wait till they arrive!!

I'm not 100% sure but I think the only changes were cosmetic, so they would match
with the new 440 series combination spanners.

On a related note... Those Stahlwille spanners look like they're made of granit...
Really awesome. I also like the reversing selector. Great design.

Not so US shiny, but after abusing them hard, they has the same finish efter a lifetime of wrenching:) Sure you can get hurt them and get some marks if you hit them with a hammer, but not that ugly scratched up surface chrome gets after some use! Facom"s satin is good, but not even close to Stahlwille if we talking durability!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1428352556.670196.jpg Open box 13 is almost unused, and stahlwille motor open end wrench I know has been used very much! It comes from my grandfathers box so its for sure abused and most likely from early -60:) Not mint condition, but the finish has hold up very well!

For me I love the kabo made splines the best I use Matco but Cornwell makes them too. That me for combos but boxed
The matco solid box/flex ratcheting are great
But those mountain offset splines are my go to

And those facom wrenches look ****

Has any body on here compared multiple manufacturers of ratcheting wrenches I kno most have Asian internals (but not all) and some snap on have dual 80 technology but are bulky compared too gearwrench setups

I own a set of Snap On Flank Drive Plus ratcheting reversible metric wrenches(SOEXRM710) and i love them!!
What i want next are these guys

Platinum Xl wrenches
http://www.tooltopia.com/platinum-99650.aspx

Kd/Gearwrench/Matco 120xp XL Metric wrenches
http://www.tooltopia.com/kd-tools-86126.aspx

Here are the Matco version of the wrenches
http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/p...DEGREE-FLEX-RATCHETING-EXTRA-LONG-WRENCH-SET/

And Gearwrench
http://www.gearwrench.com/wrenches/...ic-xl-flex-gearbox-ratcheting-wrench-set.html

From what i've been told Matco just brands these wrenches but you can get the exact same wrenches for alot less if you get the Gearwrench/Kd sets. My Cornwell guy is able to get me Gearwrench ones for a bit more than the price of the Kd.

Kd/Gearwrench 120xp XL Sae wrenches
http://www.tooltopia.com/kd-tools-86142.aspx

And also the Snap On Sae FD+ Reversible wrenches lol
SOEXR707 for those who are interested.

PS*
I don't know why wrenches is made into a hyperlink

Facom how has 4 different 467 series ratcheting combination wrenches.....

467 - standard series
467S - compact series
467R - fast action series (they still make the 40R without the ratcheting box)
467AS - antislip version

The 467AS was just released and like most of Facom's first production runs, the country of origin is France. Production for this will likely get moved to Taiwan later this year.

467as-lge.jpg

Because of the newer 467AS series, I am no longer stocking the standard 467.
