Best single edge razor blade scraper?

I got Icon and Lisle. Both are about the same price after coupon. Which one is better and any other recommendations?

BTW, I got a lot of credit cleaning up a glass top oven using the only one of these in my home. Much better credit/effort ratio than fixing cars!

I have the Lisle since earlier this year and luv it so far. No experience with the Harbor Freight one though I have an older scraper I've had for at least 20 years if not more that uses a similar thumbscrew blade hold-down that I'm not as fond of just because it seems that every time I want to loosen the thumbscrew it's too tight to turn by hand so I've chewed it up a bit with pliers and it has torn up my finger/thumb more than once when I really didn't want to have to go get a pair of pliers just to change the blade. I prefer the lever blade hold down on the Lisle so far BUT I have seen others say theirs loosened up over time and didn't hold the blade as secure any more, so maybe over the years I'll learn to prefer the thumbscrew type again but that sure aint the case for now.

I don't have either but I cant imagine you would notice a difference between either......its a scraper so its not like you are going to be stressing it too much. If I had to pick I would take the HF just because the screw down style will always work, spring loaded might get weak over time. Or maybe not, I have no idea.

Doesn't HF have a pack of those scrapers in different length? I would get that instead since sometimes a long scraper is what you need and sometimes the shortest one you can get is still about too long.

I’ve got a Blue Point one. I bought cause it was convenient and works for scraping off inspection stickers. Don’t think I’d notice a difference in any brand. I’ve got several at home too. I just used the blades that came with it then I went to Walmart and got the USA made Hyper Tough blades which do good.

The Lisle and Icon ones initially linked are for removing decals Like a safety inspection sticker, from the inner windshield. They're great for that but, can be a little unwieldy for other tasks.

There are 4 or 5 of these running around the house, couple in the kitchen for cleaning the glass cooktop, a couple in the garage for general tool cleaning. Not particular to any brand, whatever is cheap at Ace or whatever town I’m in when I need another. Blade never slips, takes up trivial space wherever it is. Prefer bright colors as they are so small.

Looks like it... when you slide the nut back it releases tension on the clamp that holds the blade.

The Red Devil JAK-nife or some such. I like those that use the old style double edge blades, they have better flex to them, but the movement to cover the blade is a bit much.

I fished through my gift cards/store credit cards and found a $10 one for O'Reilly's. Went and bought the Lisle 52000 scraper. Why not?

First impressions are nice. I like the handle size. I have XL hands and the handle is large enough for it to be comfortable in what I assume will be a moderate-significant pressure situation. I like the shape of the collar of the handle. Can position your thumb and index finger on the sides within two concave recesses. Or just position your thumb on top in a single recess.

The end cap of the handle opens up for blade storage. But that means half of the handle is hollow.... so the shank isn't set that far into the handle. That's my only concern for long term longevity.

The tension on the bottom lip that holds the blade in place is very significant. I can't foresee this wearing out anytime soon.

I contacted Lisle, and maybe I should have phrased my question better, but the scraper appears to be Made in the USA. The blades are made in the USA.

Need to motivate to take the topper off my truck so I can access the back window and remove the idiotic stickers the previous owner put on it.

I ended up with the Lisle 52000 and the Mueller Kueps 268 422 razor scrapers. Both are nice and work well. The Mueller Kueps model is a bit pricey (Zoro w/20% discount helped) but it has a very good handle. Razor retention is quite secure with both of them. Although, minimal use to date. Thanks for all the tips.

I have the Lisle and almost never use it; as Fedwrench said, it's typically only useful for things like inspection stickers. I have the Titan set and use it the most; the short one typically has a plastic blade in it. I also have the Wiha and it's great for smaller areas. In addition, I have the Astro and the short Lisle carbide scrapers, and several other typical styles

I think this is like the one Kay has.
I bought one like this in the early 70’s and have used it to remove thousands of state inspection stickers and just about that many gaskets and it still works. It is KD, I think I paid $3.00 for it.

I absolutely ******* hate scraping off decals. Absolute pain in my ***.

That said, I used the Icon for awhile. But got so frustrated one morning I broke it half and threw it in the trash where it belongs.

I picked up the Lisle and a BluePoint afterwards. The Lisle seems to work ok. BluePoint not quite as good. I also constantly break blades.

I wish there was a better way.

I clean wood fireplace insert glass doors with my single edge cheap holder but the blades last only one cleaning cycle and I've got to flip them over 1/2 the way through. So, what is a good single edge razor blade to last longer? I really don't care that much about the blade holder comfort.

Why is it good? Pretty much just like Harbor Freight's Quinn. The Quinn is actually pretty nice. Extendable. HF jacked up its price quite a bit recently. I remember from $8.5 to $9.99. I kind of regretted that I did not get one when I had the 30% off coupon.

I have the titan ones and I never use them. For the size of the handle I end up putting too much leverage on it and snap the blade. Mac has a mini scraper that is the perfect size for razor blades. I bought a few and might grab a few more.

I end up using carbide scrapers way more for surface prep anyways.

FWIW, any blade you buy, can be sharpened, or made sharper by you. Just because it costs 2 cents or says it’s disposable doesn’t mean you have to throw it away after it gets dull.

if you are scraping grout, I get it. Toss that blade, tho I dont always. My Stanley carpenters knife is presently like a scalpel. I needed it to cut peel and stick house wrap and super sticky zip tape.

My advice is to find a handle you like and sharpen your blades. I sharpen both utility blades, and the classic single edge razor blades. Only takes a minute.

Found these in Walmart paint department today. Certainly not the best scraper available, but considering these are regularly priced at $2.23, with 5 razor blades included, and made in USA, inexpensive enough to keep a few laying around. Home Depot sells the same scraper for $6.75.

Yes. Depending on where I am and what I’m doing I use different things. But quick shout out for spyderco uf stone and diasharp diamond plates. The ceramic stones are super fine and excel at something like this.
