Use bigger cutting wheels.Sawzall, sometimes I prefer the Sawzall off the car too! For custom piping without a bandsaw I prefer a Sawzall over a cutting wheel. Speed and control are the key with both.

I've found in the years of cutting with differ tools, a good jig saw with a metal cutting blade(no cheapy) makes for a nice fine cut(the least amount of material removed).
