Which tool is better for cutting exhaust, sawzall or angle grinder with cutting wheel?

Sawzall, less sparking and shrapnel spraying.

If it's on the vehicle I'd agree with the sawzall.
Otherwise can't beat a 5" grinder with a thin wheel.

I hate those chain style cutters, you need a break by the time you get through the pipe, and if used on rusty pipe it dulls the blades and makes it even worse.

Sawzall all the way if it's on a car. Chop saw or Rigid pipe cutter if off the car.

Milwaukee used to make a special attachment for their sawzall. It worked great but I have not seen one in years.

Sawzall, sometimes I prefer the Sawzall off the car too! For custom piping without a bandsaw I prefer a Sawzall over a cutting wheel. Speed and control are the key with both.

Sometimes you need all that are mentioned. Those chain types are a bit of a pain, they dull really quickly, but sometimes they will reach into a narrow space that other tools will not fit into. Not mentioned yet are those (usually air powered) rotary cutoff tools that use a disc 2-3" in diameter.

Not sure if this is an opportune time to mention this but I have used a Sawzall many times but for the last 2 years since I bought by Milwaukee M18 Hackzall, I have used it exclusively. I use it for everything from trimming palm trees to cutting bumpers and fenders to exhaust as the OP inquired about here. I recommend to anyone who regularly uses a sawzall to try the Hackzall.

If you want to make a really square cut with a sawzall, first use the chain style pipe cutter to get a line started.
Or guess. The piece rolled just as I shot the pic,,, honest. The Hackzall does look like a good idea.

I've found in the years of cutting with differ tools, a good jig saw with a metal cutting blade(no cheapy) makes for a nice fine cut(the least amount of material removed).

Man I don't know what size tubing you've been cutting with a jig saw, but keeping it straight is sure something I'd like to see.

But to add to the thread. Sawzall for on the car and portaband everywhere else.
