No worries everyone. I’m still kicking. I haven’t forgot about the crew at GJ. Things have been busy.

We went from drought to almost 2 weeks of rain.

Markets have been up and down and crazy.

We’re still going after soybeans. But we can see the finish line. Wheat is all in the ground and coming up. What cover crops we were going to do are out. So another 200+ acres of beans if we have a good day today and we’ll be finished. Then some fall tillage in the bottom fields and we call call it finished.

Cattle are doing good. But due to the drought we experienced I’ve been feeding hay for over a month already.

It’s probably been the smoothest harvest I can recall. At least in the last 12 years.

I’ve been busy with everything for fall and trying to sell some tools here and there as well. Wera has been selling my good. Macnaught just announced new stuff last week that I’m pretty excited about.

So between all that and some family stuff there hasn’t been much spare time. But I’ll do a full pre-harvest and fall recap once we get a little more caught up.

I believe this month makes it 3 years, I think, of my thread so I’ll definitely have to get it caught up.

Thanks for following along.

Here we are. It’s been another full month since the last time I said I was going to update things. I don’t where the time is going.

Despite the fact that things have “slowed down”, things haven’t really slowed down much.

Well by my count there should be roughly a thousand grain auger and field pics you need to upload. Plus all those neat metal detecting finds. We're dying of lack of green equipment pics here!

Heard we have a winter weather front moving in to Iowa tomorrow, any idea on what that means for you guys?

Well I’m not sure I’ve got that many pictures. But there are pictures. Tractors, cattle, and detecting finds.

Looks like the only thing we’re getting is the temperatures that we’re supposed to have this time of year. The last few days I’ve been driving with the window down and short sleeve. It’s been around mid 60’s this week. Really soiled me. But had about an inch of rain overnight as a cool front came in. Cooler and cloudy today. Good chance of rain tomorrow.

I don’t know where the time goes anymore. But the hours in the day fly by and the days of the week seem to go faster. Maybe we can get caught up over the weekend. Maybe by the holidays at least, before the end of the year.

In the meantime how about I post some of the new tool purchases from the last few months.

The SK Club had some sales so I got some swivel impacts, I also wanted to try their ratchet wrenches is I picked up on of those. I also bought a set of Wera Pozidriv screwdrivers. This was before I became a dealer for them. I may have posted these because this was back in the summer.

This fall I got some of the lady foot style Snap On prybars. I decided to try on the those Bahco rebranded adjustable pipe wrenches. Then through SK I got a set of offset wrenches that were marked way down, plus a few sockets to fill in and replace a few things in the shop box that I used a coupon on. Also, a stubby set of the SAE hex head sockets. One of them came completely unmarked.

4303aea8e967cafdc2d815cfb0157952.jpg
Got some SK 3/8” deepwell swivels on sale too recently. I have to say I really like SK’s sockets. All the swivels I have hold up really well.

2f300531d6dfa68b81e018ba17ee5836.jpg
Local store had this Milwaukee whole saw set marked way down on sale. So I picked it up.

3580d558cf4a1f4b02caaa403b1e5866.jpg
Later I ended up picking up the stubby hex head metric Snap On set. They were on sale if you bought the SAE set. Surprisingly, my tight Snap On dealer gave me the deal even though it had been a month since I’d bought the SAE set.

Not picture is a DeWalt 20v 12” bar chainsaw that I bought on sale. Not bad. I mainly bought it to keep in the truck in spring and fall to get some of those limbs and small trees that break out and fall in the edge of the field during the year. Dad bought the bigger 60v model. That thing runs pretty good. You can definitely cut some stuff with it.

Also, since I’m dealing with Wera now I decided to buy myself a ratchet wrench to try, a stainless Phillips screwdriver and a set of L-keys (not pictured).
5dd4a5d1ff632f731259fa6e8ccd74e5.jpg
f1514be52a1503777ad23b01b7eb42ac.jpg If I’m going to be selling this stuff I want to have some personal experience with it. At least to know the performance of them before I sell them to someone, the same way I had a lot of experience with the Macnaught stuff.

From Wera I’ve mainly just sold the Chiseldrivers and bits so far. But the Chiseldrivers are going over really well. Everyone who has bought them has really put them to the test and has been really happy with them.

That being said we’re definitely going to be getting some more Wera at the farm. All except a few Craftsman have been taken out of my box. I kept a few in case on needs to be sacrificed for a specific job. I honestly think some of Snap On’s will be the next to go. I have them cuz I got a really good deal on them from my former dealer. But they’re nothing special. They’re nice. But nothing I have to have.

Greetings! quick question about the 9/16 wrench, I was wondering about the design on the open end. Any chance you could expand on it.
Glad to see you post again, thank you!

Sure. I know Wera has a small video that shows it I can post later too.

So the side of the open end that looks like a flare nut or 12 point style, will allow easier and faster access on turning a fastener, especially in tighter spots.

The opposite side, the v shaped side works two ways. When a fastener is slid in from the opposing side (12 point side). The V shaped plate can act as a holder, it can be handy in those tight spots where you need to put a nut on a bolt and can’t quite reach, or take one off. Or you can also face the V shaped end down on to a fastener allowing a lot tighter and stronger contact to break fasteners loose, especially for stuck, rusted, slightly rounded fasteners.

Hopefully, that explains it some for you. When I get a chance I’ll post the link to the Wera video.

I am really interested in hearing your thoughts comparing the SK and the Joker ratcheting box ends. I am tempted to order on of each to try out before pulling the trigger.

I should’ve got the Wera in same size as the SK to compare size and everything a little closer. I haven’t actually had the chance to use the SK 15mm yet. Everything I’ve been working on lately has all SAE fasteners.

It was a busy fall. Luckily it went pretty smooth too.

Actually, the haven’t been too any. Several in the area have been cancelled due to everything. Plus, neither one of them have been getting out too much lately. They’re thinking about maybe trying to go to a few later this year.

A lot of bushels contracted for fall delivery and the seed is still in the shed.

Nephew increased his crop insurance and sold some more.

Politics do strange things to the ag markets. I am not sure it will be long-term unfortunately. Hopefully Im wrong.

Politics and South America’s harvest. I have my doubts as well. But there’s people say prices could go even higher yet. But some of those people are the same ones that said we weren’t likely going to see anything over $9 beans for a few years back in the summer. It’s a joke.

Just Checking, I just bought a Dewalt Batterie Powered Grease Gun, would the Macnaught KY+Load & Lube (Safety Grease Coupler) work on this device? Any opinion you can give would help. Do you sell these? Thanks!!!

Sorry it took a bit. I didn’t get a notification on the post.

Yes, the KY+ coupler will work on the DeWalt grease gun. It’ll work on any hose with 1/8” NPT threads. There’s also a 1/8” BPT version available.

I do sell them. Although as I discovered yesterday they do not have me listed on their site.

Wow, that SK rat wrench is beautiful.

I actually haven’t even had a chance to use it yet. It seems my options for use of a 15mm ratchet wrench are minimal. I guess cuz I reach for a ratchet and socket so often.

But I have tried out the 9/16” Wera Joker ratchet wrench quite a bit. I like it rather well.

Well I know I’ve got some catching up to do. I really keep failing on this promise to get things updated. But I’ve been pretty busy.

Things have been pretty crazy. We’ve been hauling grain like crazy since the new year. Haven’t had much of a break.

When I haven’t been hauling grain I’ve been trying to catch up on shop work. But that’s been a pain lately too. Just one thing after another.

The other issue has been some family stuff. My grandparents both tested positive for Covid. All political, and what other topics aside. They’re both in their early 80’s and it hit them both hard.

My grandpa was in the hospital for a month and then was sent to a nursing home. He was developing some Parkinson’s and dementia. After dealing with the virus they both seemed to rapidly develop.

My grandma has been in and out of the hospital and is currently in the nursing home as well. But is starting to show some progress in recovering.

So this has put a lot of strain on my parents. Taking care of things for my grandparents with financial issues, bills, what not.
Plus, taking care of the house and their pets. Plus, my mom is still keeping my grandpa’s jewelry store open.

So things have been a little hectic lately.

Seed is booked. 3/4’s of the fertilizer is booked. All filters for everything is restocked. A bunch of parts for repairs are bought. But there’s more to get yet. Lots of shop work to do. Combines have been inspected but need quite a bit for work to be in tip top shape. As soon at the checks come in they go right back out.

One hold up has been I’ve been taking a little time to do some metal detecting. I’m really starting to get into that. That’s also led to me starting to get into local history a little more. Plus, looking back into some old local topographical maps to search for some old places to hunt.

But I’ll get you updated on stuff soon. I’ve made some additions to the setup in the shop. I’m thinking of possibly making some more changes. Few new tools too.

Winter had been pretty mild here too. Not too cold. Nice and dry. But February has decided to make up for it. Rain. Followed by cold. Followed by rain. Few little snows to make things nice and muddy. Now some ice sleet ****.

Oh, and the defrost just about quit working on the service truck. So driving was fun today.

Cmon up, theres no mud or rain here, its too damn cold. Solid as a rock in these parts.

Sorry to hear about the grandparents, my family is going through much of the same. Luckily we aren't trying to run a business and take care of households/pets on top of that. You got the stress and worrying then compounded by work, and thats unfortunate.

With the grain sales, are you just taking advantage of the prices right now or just filling contracts you had previously?

I just ran across a 5020 for sale not far from DesMoines if you need something to run a bigger auger or help with tillage lol.

Sorry to hear about your Grandparents. I will hope for the best.
Glad to see your taking some time for yourself, one of my lessons in life is "you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anybody else"

There’s definitely no mud here anymore either. It’s cold now! Damn cold! Won’t be above freezing, or really hardly above 20 for the next week. Few chances of a decent accumulation of snow due to arrive next week as well.

Thanks, things have definitely felt hectic. It seems like it’s never ending some times.

Well we had a little bit priced at what recent prices have been. Unfortunately, a big chunk of what we hauled off was all contracted from fall. But who expected this to happen?

We could use something a bit bigger than a 5020. But I’ve always thought those seemed like a really cool looking tractor. Sort of a 4020 on steroids. That’s not a tractor I see very often, at least not around this area.

I suppose there’s some truth to that. I have to say it kind of feels good to be able to mentally take a break sometimes. It’s not hard to mentally become burnt out with work. There’s always something to do. The work never ends. Even this time of year.

Well let’s try to do a little catch up, gradually anyway. I don’t have a ton of pictures. But I do have some I’ve been trying to take so I can keep things rolling here.

Maybe we’ll work our way from now back to where we left off. It’s a little easier to find the pictures on my phone that way. Plus, right now those pictures from August/September feel like they’d be a lot warmer right now.

So currently, it’s cold, I’m not a fan of it. Today was about 10 with at least 15 mph winds. But it sounds like it’s that way for a lot of people. Last week we had a bit of a “wintery mix” of precipitation. That made the roads pretty nasty. Then he received a little bit of snow added on top of that. Real cold temperatures. Now, snow Monday and then Wednesday again. No thaw til next weekend, at which point there is supposed to be rain. So it sounds like we’ll go from cold and froze to slightly less cold and mud up to your ears. Neither one is fun.

Luckily, all the cattle seem to be taking this weather pretty well. They’ve all been staying pretty healthy this winter for the most part. Thank goodness none of them have been trying to have a calf in this miserable ****.

The morning during our winter mix the defrost couldn’t keep up on the poor service truck.
486af053dbce1dc5b729dc7f4c91bc58.jpg
Luckily, I had the heat gun with me to thaw things out so I could still see.

Anyway, surprisingly the waterers haven’t been freezing up just too terribly. The wind is what really does them in. This morning was the worst thaw out we’ve had of two of them so far.
IMG_4253.jpg
I had to put out a few bales at the retirement farm this morning. I had the block heater plugged in, but apparently it quit working. It took me an hour to get the 3020 started this morning. She didn’t want to get out in this **** either.

This past week hasn’t been exactly productive as far as actual shop work goes. Both the 7510 and the 4010 have been in there and waiting for parts. I’ll do an update on those separately.

But, if you’ve followed along you know I can’t stand disorder in the shop. From working on both tractors the shop is a nightmare right now!
1C16F969-0851-404F-8F0A-0859D0D029DF.jpg
Picture the disarray on my tool cart spread out over the entirety of the shop. It’s starting to eat at me.
f4f9ea2de526bedd3044c05eb8d439aa.jpg
It’s hard to see in this picture, but it’s a wreck. Also, note the additions to the toolbox.

So since we were waiting on parts, couldn’t pull anything else in the shop, and it was miserable outside I decided to start on getting the parts loft cleaned up and cleaned out.
ffce18d1cca1a623ff0fc115cfa93789.jpg
It’s become a huge mess. Things get shoved up there that don’t even belong up there. Then parts get shoved up there for repairs that don’t happen right away. Then you forget you’ve got them. You don’t know what’s there and what isn’t. Plus, since I lost my excel spreadsheet over a year or so ago it’s really hard to remember what all is up there. Sure I can remember a few things but I can’t remember everything.

Not to mention there’s a ton of two cylinder parts up there. Those aren’t been worked on all the time like the tractors that are actually doing the work. So besides distributor parts and spark plugs, we don’t need all that **** up there. Several years ago when my uncle got on a kick of redoing a tractor a winter he’d just keep ordering stuff, like gasket kits. There’s so many gaskets up there that have been forgotten about I know there’s doubles of a lot of it. Those need to be organized and moved. I can’t handle it.

e4f9bfb2c3ac553b79cc72fdc9cf4c25.jpg
It’s hard to really see a difference in this picture. But I’ve made progress this week. At least I can walk without feeling like I’m going to trip or knock something over. I’ve moved quite a bit of stuff out, thrown stuff away, and just picked things up.

I’ve gone through each bin of parts and reorganized. I’m writing down each part, and number, what it goes to, and quantity as I go through. I’ve got things in bins that weren’t in bins. I’ve also got more bins on the way too.

All the info we’ll be going in to an app. It’s an app I found via a GJ post a believe. It should allow me to just type in a part number of description of the part and it should tell me exactly where it’s located. I’ll be able to easily update the quantity of that part as well. Best part is it’s totally free. Plus, dad and I can both have it on our phones and iPads to make it really easy.
74ede2f12d7c64310e556007edbf5ea4.jpg
I’ve also got a whole box of filters to put away, organize and inventory. There was also a box of parts but luckily most of them are now put away.

Dad turned 60 on Wednesday. I bought him a screwdriver/pry bar organizer to mount on his tool cart.

I think he likes it. He also finally got out his Wera stuff I got him for Christmas.

Still haven’t heard anything on the arrival of our new planter we ordered. But was told it was in production like two months ago.
1564cb8e0d2bfc5c7a1f2da5c188e1c0.jpg
So we’ve got a lot of Kinze parts to get rid of. I probably should’ve sold them before now. But there’s some guys that we’re talking to about a fertilizer spreader and we may trade them some of the planter parts to knock a bit off the price of the spreader.

Also, had this surprise this week. I was walking out of mom and dad’s house from eating lunch. I looked out the door and saw this...
83784c08fd5f69f1a0ab556c5a2e6c2a.jpg
Do you see that in the middle? That’s a bobcat, less than 20 yards from the house. It’s an immature bobcat, so it wasn’t full sized, but a bobcat none the less. Before this picture it was actually in the yard, literally feet from the house. I’ve seen a coyote almost that close to the house. But definitely never a bobcat.

The delay on the new piece of machinery maybe related to everything else in production. Waiting on parts from someone else to complete the job and get it out the door.

Good luck on the inventory tracker and locator. It’s got to be horrible looking thru 6 boxes to
