At 12' I think a BA Fan would blow you away. I have two 50 inch ish fans and they work well on a 30 x 60 with 12' 6" ceilings.

BAF isn't the only company with big *** fans. Look into domestic fan companies like Hunter for big fans.

I did a google search and a company called "Big Air" fans makes a 96" one... its HVLS, but the reviews were about 50/50, some people say that they are good, but the bad reviews are more detailed.

I also saw the Hunter Titan series, but it seemed to be actual more expensive than the BAF comparative model.

I use regular sized commercial type fans, 4 or 5 feet in diameter. They move a lot of air, use negligible electricity, and are cheaply replaced if ever needed. Never had to replace one, though.

Look on Craigslist for fans.. you don't really need big *** fans... dry air and air movement in an insulated space should get you comfortable...

A competitor to Big *** fans is Macro Air. They are newer to the market and may have more competitive prices.

I looked long and hard at both HVLS options, but eventually went with two 60" heavy duty industrial fans by leading edge model 60001. They make more noise than the big *** fan, but the two of them with downrods and speed controllers were under $1000 total.

We have about a dozen of the Macro Air fans at work and they move a lot of air or a little, depending on the frequency we set them at. In the summer we move more air so the associates can actually feel the air movement and get the cooling affect. In the winter we turn them way down so it merely assists in keeping the heat lower in the warehouse. Overall very good fans with a great service life.

Here's the controller. Full speed and direction control, and I believe it was $29.00. I have three of them, and they move a lot of air.

One thing about fan placement, you don't want them to be overlapping any light fixtures. That would make using a BAF more difficult.

I installed this one in my garage. It's a great fan. Uses under 30w at full speed. There are 10 speed or more I lost count. The D.C. Motor is great and I won't buy another fan with AC motor because DC is silent and can go really slow. It's also good for my low ceilings with the downrod it comes with.
quality control so so make sure it doesn't rattle or grind before installing. I took the first one back. Sometimes they have 10-15% off online.
I believe you can try to use the remote to turn on more than one fan if you set the same channel.

I really don't think you need BAF unless you are running a costco. They have those type fans and that is great there. To move that much air you need it far from the ceiling which you cannot do with 12 ft ceiling. Install four 72" fans and save your extra $3000 and put towards air conditioners.

I was looking at the Macro Air, and BigAss, Awesome fans but I have a ceiling liner with blown in insullation. Apparently, you need a reinforced metal anchor to support the weight. That sounds like a big expensive pain in the *** to me.

Multiple smaller fans will also work, you can run multiple fans off a single controller as well. Dayton fans from the Grainger catalog are pretty good.

We have a 28x30 shop with 15 foot ceilings. Put in a pair of 52-inch fans and I never run them above medium speed.

I have worked with a guy that makes huge fan blades for store bought fans. He used balsa and aluminum depending on what the customer wanted. There’s a few fan motors that look industrial with high enough hp that you can get for a couple of hundred bucks then he puts his blades on them. I wish I had pictures because they look incredible and cost under $750 complete with fan motor. The Indoor sports center near me has 2 of his fans. He has a few dozen more scattered throughout warehouses in RI.

I helped put a big *** fan up in a library with 25 ft ceiling. Strobe effect was obvious but they love it. I guess its much more comfortable in there.

A bit off topic but somewhat fan related. I was at a trade show in Orlando in early February (AHR Expo), which featured HVAC equipment and related items for installers and manufacturers. Big *** Fans was there, and so was one of their competitors, Kale Fans America. Kale had a fan there that looked just like a Big *** Fan.

At the end of the first day of the show, US Marshals showed up, served the Kale reps a restraining order and shut down the booth!

I'm not surprised. I was at Carlisle a few years ago and there were two companies offering what looked like identical cutting/machine tools. One had a BIG sign saying they had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the other and the basic message was, "Please don't buy from our copycat competition". The "copycat" vendor ended up with a very similar notice from the US Marshals posted on their empty booth by mid day.

this is what I am going to use in my 36x48x16 shop. we have 4 of them in our shop at work 40x60x20 and they work well for the $.
