Okay, I thought he was the guy doing the foundations. See if they'll give you a real quote, if not take your business elsewhere.

Been a while since I updated. I did the math on it & it really isn't a bad price but I just wasn't expecting it. Believe it or not I have 3 people on my road that are having work done. Two additions & one home that burnt down. I've been asking around to see what they are going through & they are getting hit harder then I am as far as prices. The addition is the same size as mine and they are charging him almost 13K for his siding. Mine is 14K but they are doing my whole house not just the addition & they are removing my existing siding & the old shingles that they never took off when they originally did the siding. His house is white so he can get away with just doing the addition. Mine, being blue; I will never get it to match so we are changing the color.

Anyways on with the update: We got the floor poured & it came out awesome! I was holding my breath there for a time because it started to rain. I thought I was screwed. But all is well that ends well. I read the invoice on the mix of the concrete & the slump was 2-4". It was as thick as oatmeal! The boys got a workout this day that's for sure. I was sweating just watching them.:D The only thing that is a bit strange is there is a 1" diameter spot that is still dark and still feels green..?:headscrat This is 2 days after. I got a call in to the concrete guy to see what he says. Then today the wood showed up for the garage walls & the decking for the first floor. They are suppose to fire up the nail gun in the morning 8AM sharp...We will see. This is taking forever it seems.

Day 2 of framing & they got all the I Joists in, caped, & squared. The decking for the apartment is done and they have the upstairs walls roughed in. They are going to sheath the walls in the morning & if the windows show up they will install those all before they go up. The plan is to shingle the roof Saturday. These guy's are animals! They are fast and accurate. One wall had a belly to it & they took it apart & fixed it. Said I would have never noticed it but it bothered them so they took care of it. My first booboo. I ordered one too many windows. Ops! We'll fit it somewhere. Thinking of putting in an I beam down the center for picking up engine blocks & maybe the bodies of my hot rods. Nothing real heavy. I just don't have the $$ for an engineer so I'm not sure how big to make it. It has to be 29' long to span front to back. I was thinking a 10" high by 6" wide beam would work. I know there is a LOT more to it then guessing.

It's the neighbors cat but we feed it too. They just sold their house so hopefully they take OJ with them. That cat's food is killing me financially!

I don't think that header framing for the garage doors is going to cut it. It doesn't look like you have any cripple studs on each side of the opening unless they are going to come back and put them in later. You have to have the cripple studs to support the weight of the headers.

BTW....it's looking good though. Too bad most members live so far apart. We could hold a garage raising like the Amish do with their barns and saved you a good chunk of your labor cost.

The other side of the header is going in soon. The wall was too heavy to lift if they put both in on the ground. An old fashion barn raising would be cool. For the cost I could have flown some members in.:D

And now for more progress. They sealed up the window in my kitchen (the wife was real happy about that). They laid out the second floor floorplan (had to make some minor adjustments), striped the back wall of the house, removed the soffits, & raised one wall. The excavator was here cutting down the driveway some more & leveling off the yard. More to come stay tuned.

Day four of framing and they have all the outside walls up & one inside wall up. For me; Man this thing is huge! It looks even bigger because the driveway is still about a foot lower then it should be. The excavator is finally getting the grades where they need to be. He trucked out almost 20 tri-axles full. The landscape has definitely changed that's for sure. I had him dig a huge pit in the back yard & we burned all the scrap wood. We are giving away the old siding for free & scrapping the aluminum. All the rest will go in either boxes or contractor bags and be put out at the curb for local trash pickup. Dumpster? We don't need no stinking dumpster!:D Stay tuned.

Well the end of day 5 brings us closer to a roof. The last of the exterior walls are up. Two rooms are roughed in (Her bathroom & bedroom). The trusses are in and all the garage wall bracing has been removed. Tomorrow is truss bracing, sheathing, full roof ice & water shield & shingles (so they say). I think the shingles will go on Monday along with the ridge vent. He said he would have the whole thing framed, sheathed, & roofed in 10 days. Looks like he is ahead of schedule. Next up...wiring.:shocking: Stay tuned.

End of day 6 doesn't look like much but they did all the cross bracing of the trusses, blended the roof lines, flashed, sheathed, & Ice and water shielded the roof. Ran out of the Ice & water shield. Kinda hoping he has spare roll hanging around so I don't have to buy another roll for a 3' X 3' section. Its suppose to rain Monday night into Tuesday so the roof has to be done by then. Then we go inside.

Her bathroom and bedroom? Since you got a garage, you get to sleep there and she gets a bedroom and bath. :rocker: Nice tradeoff!!!

LOL...No No No. The upstairs is for my elderly Mom that is coming to live with us. But with a heated floor & AC in the summer I may just put a bed in there.;)

Day 8 was another busy day. They fire blocked all the walls in the garage. Anything over 8 feet has to be fire blocked. They built my stars leading down into the garage so now I can get into the garage without having to walk all the way around the house or using a ladder. They also put on a 2' decorative overhang on the front of the garage. Sorry for the blurry picture. I can't seem to get through to the wife that you have to press the shutter button on the camera lightly then press harder once the little square turns from red to green. :lol_hitti

Sounds like you had better take the photos. Looking good.

I take most of them but she does it after I go to work at the end of their days work. I wish I could password protect the camera. Technology isn't there yet.:p

They shingled the overhang on the garage, finished framing the kitchen wall, moved the shower stall over, & just for fun because they were bored waiting for the windows & doors to show up they started ripping apart the siding on the house. Called the building inspector to have him come look at the framing. I told him they were worried about rain so they did the roof. I told him they went with ice & water shield over the whole roof because it is only a 4-12 pitch and that they took pictures if he wanted to see them. He told me that wouldn't be necessary & to have them keep going that he would be up to see what they had done later on this afternoon... Um! OKAY.:headscrat Man this is getting crazy. I'm busier then a one armed paper hanger with crabs.:D The designer (Ed) stopped by to see how it was coming along. He looks like a proud poppa watching his baby being born. Can't say enough about Ed. Hell of a nice guy and he hooked me up with all the guy's doing the work. All the guy's are going the extra mile to see this "HUGE" project through. I'm pretty happy so far. Stay tuned more to come.
