Don't see many ideas for storing long levels. I have several including a couple over 5 feet long. Those get moved around the shop for lack of a permanent home. Let's see some great ideas for a rack or similar.
I just hang mine on hooks vertically against the wall.
Large diameter PVC or ABS pipe and some screw on endcaps like just about any contractor uses. Been storing an 8ft CRL straightedge in them for about 8 or 9 years now. Keeps the dust and moisture out and is somewhat shock resistant.
How often are you using them??
Out of curiosity, why do you need a level that long? Most people don't realize that a long level is just as accurate as a short level (normally .0005" over 1'). The only thing the long level does over a short one is ignore any waves in the surface you are measuring that are shorter than the short level. If you just use a 2' level and check in two places you get the same result for a lower cost and easier storage.
