Big snap ring pliers for 3-1/2" internal rings?

Ive worked mainly on BMW stuff for over 10 years.. Rear press in wheel bearings have a 3.5" snap ring that holds them into the knuckle. Ive used a Snapon srpc9000a snapring plier, which was the "largest they offer" according to the guy I bought it from..
Anyway these cars are getting older and often I get one where the ring is rusty and these pliers dont cut it for compressing the ring. Also the tips of the tool are much smaller than the holes in the actual ring.
I usually have to smack the ring with a punch first to break it free, When Im dealing with a rusty one.

What is out there that is a little bit larger, with tips that actually fit the holes?

The SO man actually had those large bluepoint ones on the truck last week.. I didn’t like the price and figured I could find out who really makes them, and pay less. But it looks like gray might make them, (as well as that kit in the red box) and I have no clue how to buy gray tools on this side of Lake Erie [emoji14]

I like these because they ratchet. But I don't deal with snap rings that large very often. I think your trick with the punch is probably necessary when they are rusted in place no matter what pliers you use.

We have a set of those (or similar to them) at the shop that I also tried, to no avail, if Im not mistaken.

I found these. They look pretty heavy duty. Lang Tools 87, formerly known as High Tech.

It looks similar to the Gray/Bluepoint. without the case. Maybe Lang is the Manufacturer. At any rate, it looks strong and is available south of Lake Erie.

Shipping times show about a month, but I've had stuff arrive in less than two weeks. Search "circlip pliers j4" on Amazon.de.

Lang is a great brand that I like, but I believe that Imperial is the producer of these technically. It makes pretty much all of the quality rebrands and makes them in U.S.A. I do buy mine branded as Lang/Kastar.

The Lang 75 or the Blue-Point PRC65A works good on larger retaining rings. I had the older Blue-Point version with the red handles. Skookum built plier about 10" long

I can recommend that you should NOT buy the HF large snap ring pliers. got them for some large snap rings on a mazda awd that needed wheel bearings. they bent before the snap ring was even half way closed. and we don't have the rust problem here in cali.

The Knipex are almost 4" longer than the snap on that you're using. Assuming the tip diameter fits the ring, I don't think you'll have any problems.

Let us know how they work out.

They actually make that snap ring look fairly small.
