The railroad doesn't have to throw things away, things surely sprout legs tho.....
ALL: to date the big RR 695 pound Pittsburgh vise has not been found, but recently a smaller version with 5 inch wide jaws was so the search continues. also VA has a salesman's sample that weighs about a pound he should post here along with his other monsters he's yet to post.
cheers
Guys,
I've come across of what appears to be an old railroad vise. I didn't have a chance/time to check it out fully as I passed it on my way to the offices and didn't leave the building through the same doors I entered. Now I've been trying to find a similar looking vise online but couldn't. I suspect it's a prewar vise and it was in really good condition from what I could remember.
I'm considering going back and offering some money for it to take it home. The jaws weren't very big - in range of 7-8" - but it was pretty long - at least 24".
What would be one of those worth these days? The boys at the factory joked they used a forklift to move it in and haven't found a bench big enough to mount it. It sits in the corner but is a gorgeous piece of engineering so I'm thinking of making them an offer they can't refuse! LOL
Been a while since I was in this thread.---Saw where Drive suggested I post my Pittsburg Railroad Salesman Vise some months ago.---So late than never.
You guys realize this thread is 7 years old and has #173 post's ( give or take a few...), just sayin;...
Take care fellas!
Very nice! Where did you find it?
Yes, and the vise mega thread is 8 years old and has 54K post's, so what's your point?
