Hi,
i'm glad it all worked out. That extra port in the unloader tower is likely for a dual unloader setup for continuous run. Since you don't have 2 unloader towers your compressor probably wasn't specd for it. You can just plug it and make sure it doesn't leak and work it's way loose. Loctite would seal the threads and make sure it doesn't loosen up over time if you have a bottle around...
Thanks for the reply and for all the help provided. After doing a lot of research and watching several videos on these old Quincy compressors I feel like I got a great deal when I purchased it. These old machines were well made back in the day to last 50+ years.

Thanks again Joel!

You ain't kidding! I picked up a Quincy 325 on Marketplace about a year ago. It's from the 50s. 70+ years old now. Runs well. I fell down a rabbit hole to get it running in my home garage. You can see the VFD on the wall (3PH motor). Had to get a new tank as I found weld repairs on the bottom of the one it came with. The plumbing is 'temporary' just to get it up and running. I'll plumb it better one of these days.

Joel, got to work on my air compressor this weekend and did as you suggested. Drained the oil which was pretty black. Opened the side cover and cleaned out all the sludge that was in the bottom (found quite a bit in there) removed and cleaned the oil screen. Was also able to get to the brass crank shaft plug and remove it and the oil spill valve and clean it as well. Reassemble everything, refilled the compressor with 30W Non-Detergent oil, started it up and “WOW” oil pressure back up to 18-20 psi. Happy, Happy, Happy!!!

Oh yea almost forgot, I add the Solberg air filter you recommended and it made a world of difference to the noise of the intake as you said it would.

Have another question, on my cylinder unloader valve there is a 1/8” NPT socket head pipe plug what is this plug for? How tight should it be? Mine was only finger tight which allowed it to leak air. See pics below.

Thanks and Happy Saint Patrick Day everyone!

After further reflection, if that's the only hole on the unloader tower it wouldn't make sense for it to be fully plugged. The air would have nowhere to go... If it leaks while the compressor is off it usually means the diaphragm is no good. (in your case an o-ring is likely leaking) OR a leaky HP discharge valve could be the cause.

I was wondering why your compressor seemed a bit off than what i am used too. It is that unloader tower, it is different on the ROC 22 and they switch back to using a diaphragm with ROC 23. You don't have a diaphragm.

The parts breakdown for your specific 310 ROC 22 is available on the Quincy literature website if you haven't checked it out already.

I will double check the uploader tomorrow for any additional holes however I don’t think it has but that one. I did down load the 310 ROC 22 parts manual from the Quincy web site a few weeks ago. The air leak is no big deal for me right now since I don’t use the compressor that much right now. I am just glad to know it is up and running. I can and will deal with the air leak later.

Maintenance time for the ol' 310.

-Pulled the head to see if the LP piston still leaked oil; it does after being ran for awhile and there is some heat built up
-inspected valves; no carbon, oily and LP discharge valve was not sealing 100% but likely wasn't causing any issues.

Besides the oil they looked the same as when i put them in a year ago. It wasn't ran too much in the past year but i felt compelled to take a look

The oil from the drain came out really clean. I pulled the inspection cover the remaining oil at the bottom contained some sediment, non detergent oil is doing its thing...

I'm going to start gathering some Quincy original parts for a rebuild. I ordered piston rings from Industrial Air Power last year but i'm not certain if they are OEM. I'm not sure if i want to change the taper bearings and front seal etc... We will see how far i take the rebuild, bottom end seems pretty stout and low hours on the pump.
