Can anyone tell me if this drill press is worth owning for $80 or less. Looking for a reasonably priced one for my garage (not professional use, just a tinkerer) and saw this on craigslist including the vise.

I wouldn't, there has to be something better on your local CL.

Market price for that type of generic used drill press is <<$50 around here. It just depends what your time is worth continuing the search if all you need is a basic table top model.

As much as I like the old Craftsman and Delta stuff if that will do the job for you the price is not bad including the vise. In my area rarely does ANY drill press come up for sale. If a better one comes along later for a good price buy it and sell this one then.

Negotiate the price down to $60 as the vise is worth something.

Keep looking on CL for old school CM, Delta, etc. . . . maybe even free standing. A Craftsman model 150 would be a great find.

Hard to say from one picture and no dimensions, but overall it looks an awful lot like Central Machinery or one of the other Harbor Freight economy brands. If it's an 8" press, regular price at HF is $70, and there are always 20-25% off coupons available.
If it's bigger than 8", and a rarity in your area, then it might be an ok deal - better at $50!

To put it in perspective, about three months ago I bough one of the Cent.Mach. 8" benchtops, rustier than the one you're looking at, but working fine, for $20.

Those are the typical china or Taiwan units. Decent but not great
I would get it at $50 if you can as long as you getnthe vise with it.
Use it and keep looking for a bigger unit

If it's been a dust collector in someone's garage, there may be some life left in it. These generic asian drill presses are quite common. Eighty bucks sounds high.
