I swear you leave the door open for 1 minute and they try to run off......

Jokes aside floor was nasty decided it was time for a shop cleannsince wife was outta town I parked the zl1 on her side so I could shuffle cars and keep the cool air in..... TN is miserable right now. Stopped half way cause I was using zep and a mop..... and it wasn't quite doing. Had better luck with coronation cleanup in a bottle and a wet rag.....

I've been super un motivated with the summer heat. I've not done much car wise. End of June I'd ordered the last of my suspension thinking that would motivate me but injustice got the shipping notification this week.....

So Wednesday ill have "almost" everything i need to put the front frame under it all the suspension and set a motor and transmission in it....

By any chance do you have a carpet cleaner to test out how well it would clean your floor??

Since the wife was out and all, I figured you would be safe for a little while to test it out.

I dont have a big one of those i have a spot cleaner ( house is entirely hardwood)

Now what i do have that ive been tempted to use is a product made my shark, where is a wetmop/vacuum? Instead of a beater bar it has a mop material roller initially and you spray the cleaner from.a built in tank onto the roller and it mops in one pass and ***** up the dirty water with another. Just dont think it would hold up well to a stronger cleaning agent?

Well... where to start august has come and gone ive spun my wheels a lot. Lots of things keeping outta garage time. College football started back up and that lead to a lazy saturday on the deck.... weather was perfect!!!! So wife and I stretched out under onnthe deck couch and watched football all day into the evening

Sunday we spent with my folks at their house for a shrimp boil and I picked up a couple dozen oysters for me dad and the kiddo. So I got to break out the shucking gear haha. Got a generational shot in dad's (Pa) shop, we are the only 3 that eats them so dad and I shucked and my son ate his fill of the thumbsuckers haha. Im very close with my family so we take any moment we can to gather and eat haha. Mom has had both hips replaced this year so they were ready to have some company and carry on like normal.... ish before they closed the pool down for the year.

Now onto the cars.....

Blackbyrds brakes still had a leak and after a good chat with the supplier of the kit, they offered a suggestion and a replacement part regardless of the outcome. So I cranked the snot out of the fitting and rounded the fitting haha. While it quit leaking it seems (didnt start engine) im still gonna replace the hardline with the new pieces and swap out a fitting for better routing while im in there..... which means ill have to bleed the brakes again.... Finishing lines has my business for the 71 though. They have been super responsive to questions and taking care of this issue way after install.

The 71 ... id bought the last of the suspension bits mid June and it took till last week for most of it to arrive. I was hoping this would be the kick in the *** needed to get back going. Unfortunatel not, still waiting on trans cross member as it was on back order, but seems the mounts for the sway bar dont fit the frame. I'd reached out and waiting to hear back on but the long holiday made responses slow im sure. So I assembled my coilovers, put the rack mounts on, and set the motor mounts in place for now. Not quite the motivation I wanted, but still exciting to see everything start to look finished!

Thanks for making it this far! Hope everyone had a great labor day weekend!

Adam, It's possible I have a problem with shellfish. I grew up on Long Island in the '50s so raw clams and oysters were a regular treat. A visit to a retired friend of my father's hobby farm on the banks of the Chesapeake had me raking oysters off his dock. No one specified how many I should gather but I quit when the bushel basket was full. I didn't eat them all (too young to shuck them) but I ate more than my share. A business trip to New Orleans included an evening of bar crawling to find the best dozen oysters offered on Bourbon Street. Near the end of the street I stopped ordering beers and just slurped oysters. I forget which bar had the best but there wasn't a bad dozen in any of them.

Our daughter worked nights as the hostess at The Red Lobster while pursuing a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. When she told us her restaurant was hosting an oyster-eating contest, Liane and I were all in. The half-dozen other attendees quit after 18 or 20 oysters but Liane and I fought it out to the end. The end came when we finished the restaurant's supply of oysters and Liane won because they gave her the last three oysters.

We camped for two weeks on our speedboat at the Fire Island National Seashore and acquired a local clamming license that allowed us to harvest a bushel of clams a day from the Great South Bay. I think we missed our limit on two or three days but we ate a whole lot of clams, in sauce, stuffed and raw. Soon after I lost my arm I taught myself to open clams one handed (English muffin stand-in)...
Clam Shucking.jpg
On a trip to Tasmania we found a place at the docks in Hobart selling fresh seafood. Having eaten a lot of small Sydney Rock Oysters, I asked for three dozen Pacific Oysters. The proprietor looked at me like I was nuts but did as asked. Turns out Pacific Oysters are HUGE.
Pacfic Oyster Haul.jpg
Had quite a time opening those puppies using a table knife from the B&B we chose but eventually the oysters gave up the fight.
Pacfic Oysters.jpg
I see you have a nice collection of shucking gear and it's possible I went a little overboard looking for the best kind. Although I have a mesh glove, it doesn't really help but a nick or two on my stump is a small price to pay for the case of oysters the local Winn Dixie used to sell.
Shucking Tools.jpg
These days I settle for canned oysters -- smoked for snacks and Geisha's larger ones for an occasional oyster stew.

My foray into a modified suspension on my '72 Corvette big block involved front coil and rear leaf conversions. Spent way too much time modifying stock lower control arm and ended up with tubular upper and lower aftermarket units, along with the R&P steering. Started converting the rear control arm and ended up with an offset aftermarket control arm for some bigger rear meats. Project has stalled for way too long.
Coilover.jpg Global West Lower Control Arms.jpg Big Tire Plan End.jpg
I now return your thread to your amazing posts.

@Bob Heine thanks for sharing!!! My family and oysters go way back haha. My great grand dad is where it started and they lived in Dothan Alabama. We never met, but family reunions revolved around them by the bushel! Granted they always preferred Appilachicola oysters though they are harder to get these days.

This batch was from Louisiana and didnt quite have the same saltiness, but we're still better then farm growns! 6 dozen this go around, but ive eat 5 or 6 dozen in a sitting at times, though not recently. That 25 bucks a dozen mark is a bit hard to swallow if you will haha.

Just some hot sauce on the halfshell and im happy.

The 71 suspension components are a variation of that mustang 2 type. Luckily this is basically a bolt on subframe to get the benefits of upgraded geometry. The rear kit requires a little welding to get the task done, but nothing scary? Got a little more metal work to go before this can go on though, just wanted to get the parts off the check list ya know.

Now that the zl1 is officially retired from daily duty decided to detail the engine bay. Griots is still my go to for detailing supplies their engine cleaner alone is that was used here. A little paint correction and a show on saturday (took 2nd in my class muscle car 2010 2019) beat a mustang, but lost to a 2011 camaro ss that was super decked out. Didn't do a full correction just hit a few rough spots where bird droppings stained the paint. Id like to get a paint thickness tool before I go further since gm has notoriously dropped clear thickness.

I wanted to take the bird, but I realized while trying to bleed the rear brakes again that I put the calipers on upside-down so the bleeder screws are on the bottom.... so that didnt leave a lot of time to get that all done and bleed and the car detailed. So ive almost missed the entire season cause im an idiot.... oops.

Nearly a year too date.... I also got my new windshield smashed by a walnut.

I dont always eat like this but every now and then I just want a big tomahawk steak and potatoes. Green egg cooked absolutely delicious haha.

Swapped the rear calipers to get the bleeders up high, since the calipers had to come off i decided to go ahead and replace the fitting at the p valve. Just need to do a little line re routing and time to bleed hopefully the last time.

Got the sway bar in, though it did come with the wrong endlinks. Thankfully they are mailing out the correct parts. Suspension nearly completed, thinking ill get it coated black though (brass isn't my style haha)

I got to take the zl1 onna road trip to Knoxville wife was at a conference so I snuck off work early to spend a night with her and enjoy the old part of town for a night. I had forgot how much fun this car is on the interstate, especially on the curvey sections of interstate. Although some absolute disaster of construction made me set and ride m clutch for 40 minutes...... I took windshield perspective photo with the implied caption of go home TDOT your drunk. The road work did not end.... in fact it got even more confusing at one point on a 2 lane stretch it said both left lanes were closed, followed by right lane closed, followed by the iluminated sign that says use both lanes....... all to find 3 guys in vests sweeping a bridge after 7 miles of gridlock. The actual traffic jam was of their own doing! All the diverted traffic that circled around to get on further down the interstate congested the on ramp where the 1 lane exiting construction met all thr people trying to merge....... ive seen better planning in kindergarten art class on finger paint day before class photos.

Being how sometime I’m involved in those road construction, I can agree on how they lay it out seems silly. PADOT has a manual to follow on safety traffic control. Some sections are straight forward, but sometimes there are some odd situations and trying implant those strategies ends up creating what you described.

Sadly, because a lot of drivers are never paying attention and driving too fast around road crews, these rules are to be followed to ensure the crew goes home each night. But, I won’t lie if I didn’t think some of it is over cautious sometimes.

All for safety, Im sure there was something bigger than sweeping going on, but at the time it was quite comical.

Seemed like multiple over lapping projects which would explain the signs making no sense.

I hear ya.

Awhile back it was front page news and all the news channels were talking about how 376 was going to be shut down both way at Squirrel Hill Tunnels over a busy weekend in Pittsburgh. This was due to cross over of several projects that came to a head at that tunnel. I made sure to stay away from that cluster mess.

Should have hollered at me while you were in town! Always cool to meet up and check out the rides and folks you see and interact with online. Im meeting with Tdot for a major interchange redo thats upcoming on I75. It will affect hospital traffic so I have to go to meetings to make sure I can advise EMS on how to get to us.

Dude I absolutely thought about messaging you! If there had been downtime while she was working i would have. I got in around 230 Knoxville time and we hit the hotel. Then snuck out to get a snack at the old part of town, then went and had a nice dinner at Chesapeake then back to the hotel lobby cause barn stormed on tap. Then had to he at the zoo for the heart walk at 730 Knoxville. Soon as thst was over we hit the road. The construction we got stuck in was 75 merging hack into 40 going back home (towards Nashville)

First time seeing the Knoxville zoo id like to go back and take my son, he would have struggled with how this even worked out.

Byrd is back on the road!!! Just in time for ttop weather, brakes are solid now even locked em up.... and promptly did a burnout..... 414 wanted to breath.

Its not always about the garage.... this is pretty much the last room in the house we never touched after taking ownership back in 2013. Its at the base of the stairs coming out of the garage. We have always used it like a pantry of sorts? I kicked the idea around of having a space to set up a few kitchen appliances to store/use and free up some space in the kitchen. Now that the kiddo is a little older and full into school, it made sense to fully convert to a buttler pantry.

I took demo and paint on, while the wife painted the cabinet faces, went pretty low budget with some butcher block counters from Lowes. Really like the counter tops for the price. Still have a sink to put in to replace the utility sink. The big stuff is done at this point, so now just finishing work like hardware, toe kicks, and a shelf or two.

Thanks everyone for the kind words! The tile showed up yesterday and the sink will be delivered today. So ill be back at it again soon..... gotta get back to car stuff after this if im gonna hit my goal for the year though....

@madison069 yeah its always been a place for a 2nd washer and dryer, but either way we use a set of stairs to to use one. So we kept them upstairs, there's a closet in the guest bathroom they are tucked away in.

What i did learn is that im glad I never tried to use the one in the pantry.... the drain wasn't hooked up so that would have been fun.

No clue but its not the first wtf thing ive found in this house. I popped off that access panel you see and thats when I figured it out. Which makes it make even less sense why is there an access panel?

Countertops sealed, cabinet hardware done, sink/plumbing done, and toe boards finished.

Hanging a shelf in stead of cabinets on the left side, hardware will be here Tuesday. Now we can start to put things in their place.

Im apparently going to be doing the house room by room now....

Wife decided to commit to the gray trim, which most of our house is some shade of gray anyway, but I painted when we moved in back 2013 so most thinks need a refresh from toddler wear and tear. I think the pantry was probably the most drastic project. The she wqnts a half wall and some decorative panels at the base of the stairs. Which basically means I need a miter saw...... per the usual motto.

Last pic is kind of a tribute if you will. I managed to keep my original 2000 bird dealer booklet all these years and when I got my new box I figured out how to display it. That car was totaled which is how I ended up with the 01. So I decided to snag the dealer booklets for a gto and camaro.... I fought my OCD here cause technically my camaro is an 18.... but only the 17 had a black car on the front cover. I have my quirks leave me alone haha.

I did get some 71 camaro work accomplished but nothing pic worthy? I borrowed my buddies small body hammer to work the trunk seal areas in where they meet the new tail panel so I can weld those in and finish them. Baby steps.

I cleaned up all the nonsense from construction, but need a dump run to complete the task. Its that time of year for me where work gets crazy, but due to vacation and our holiday shutdown I have about 7-8 working weeks left before I take off for the year. Better get my *** in gear if im gonna finish the sheet metal like I planned.

Final shots of the hall way (get me out of this cramped space).....

Wife wanted some decorative wall panels and trim work....so i got a miter saw for her birthday. Turned out pretty nice for my first time using a miter, though the natural look she wanted is pretty at a distance its a bit raw/unfinished for me. Im more a clean minimalist... but i took a backseat on this and was just the labor.

Our first snow of the year (damn sky dandruff) followed by the next project. Big open room to the left of the front door (yes those are autographed metallica albums on the wall) has my pool table and liquor cabinets. Always wanted it to be a bar room, but as ive aged id rather it be a nice sitting room with storage that hides the booze now that my kid and other neighborhood kids are at my house often. So fresh paint and a little maturing are in order.

Pool table stays

Ironically we dont drink that much liquor, ive developed a fondness of bourbons over the past few years and ive picked up some of those. Outside of that ive not purchased any of the other staples of a typical bar for many years.

While its nice to have those things out, it definitely sends a message to people who visit haha. We've talked about more closed in cabinets and possibly another butcher top like we used downstairs across the back wall for a place to make a beverage and some nice leather chairs and a table.
