Don,
I just never know what to say as comment on your projects, or your standards of restoration. I don't see how it could be done to any higher standard. Enjoyed the thread, and thanks for sharing. J.

Wow. That looks like it's on its way to SEMA.

Wow Horse
That's a very nice complement Thanks

Absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic work Don.

Thanks for following along Sawdust
And thank you for those nice thoughtrs

DON: WOW and WOW!!!

is that the same paint that you sprayed on the VETTE? or just the same type?

in any case I don't have room for one of those in my small garage, but if it was mine i'd make room in the house and I bet my bride would allow it.

GEESH that is GORGEOUS!!

Drives
Thank you. The color I painted the Vette was a customized Viper red
The jack is a ford factory color from the 2017 line

Don:
The quality of the work is outstanding! What a beautiful restoration! Question: will this jack be a Garage Queen or will she be put to work?:lol_hitti

Carry-on!

Thank you Gearhead
I'm quite sure it will be working in my 1930's garage display It is scheduled to lift the front of my 1929 model "A" roadster along with the matching jack stands.

Did your kit come with 4 ball bearings. Just going through your thread and I don't see any. I have yet to open up the hydraulic jack..its on the work bench. Just getting started on this S14
Any tips? Is the jack rocket science to reassemble?

I’m looking at castings. Geez these things are rough. I’m contemplating smoothing these some.
Don Long is a bad influence:)

I've been exactly where you are now with the same exact thoughts. Unlike Jedi Master Don, I elected to leave the rough castings alone in the interest of time. As already mentioned, smoothing out the castings is a lot of work and a lot of time. Once you start, you're all in so there's no going back.

Choose wisely.

It's a lot of work JAZZ but I'm very happy that i did it

Don Does this brass part need removed? I suspect so but have to ask. If so I be making a tool
Brass part on other end dropped out, I think the jack had been apart by the marks on nut

Is the brass piece threaded in or pressed in. Made a tool with 2 pins set to turn the brass, pins bent right now.

Update. I pulled the big steel piece out with pliers exposing the seals inside,, so the brass is pressed in.

Yes I noticed my S14 a bit different. Not sure how this other piece comes out yet of jack. Does seem to be well seated. The other pieces came out easy enough
Some seals in the kit are leather, others rubber. They look inferior to the 3 seals I can see in the jack. They appear to be neoprene?
The kit is for rebuilding S13,S14 and S18 Blackhawk jacks so that explains why some of the seals are too large to fit anywhere and there will be parts left over as is usual with most of my projects:bounce:

Don. The shaft with all the seals on it shown on page 2. Did you require a press to remove that?

No it was a little bit of a fight but I pulled it out using the vice to hold it while I pulled on the pump body and twisted it while pulling

Ya there is a big difference in the S13 and my S14. The parts list that came with the seal kit is for a S13. With the rams out whatever is left inside the housing is 1 1/2" in length as I measured from each end... Total housing length is 14". There is 8 1/2" clearance on one end, 4" clearance on other end.
I’m thinking these brass “washers” need to be removed to extract the remaining piece that has all the seals on it

The brass end won’t budge. Heated up body of jack and what little brass could be gripped with lathe just chewed brass. Not good

Got the brass off with punch and hammer. Now one more similar “nut” deep in jack. Similar to the steel one next to the brass. My home made tool did not budge the nut inside jack even with my 1/2” impact

I know this is an old thread, but I'm restoring an s13 currently and wanted to say that Don's resto job is the nicest I've seen---by far. Awesome!

Looking for an s13 oil res cover if anyone has an extra. Preferably with the badge and light housing.

Beautiful work Don Long, That is a top notch job there. I am working on restoring an s-4 but haven't got that far along and am very happy to see your ideas. I cant do the quality of paint work that you have done but I'm sure your ideas will influence how I do my project. I worked on reconstructing the missing parts for the work light in the s4 and am not sure if some of my extra parts might be helpful for your model. Here are some pictures of the parts being tested on the bench. If you or anyone else is interested I have a few extra complete sets that I made when I was making mine. message me if you are interested
Thanks
