Ran across this ******** on eBay. The seller literally threw a “MADE IN USA” sticker over the back of the ratchet and appears to have used white out to cover up “Made In Taiwan” on the back of the tag. The description states he’s had it for years, yet it’s stamped L-AG which is a 2018 date code and can still be found at any Sears.

I’ve seen people who claim China Craftsman tools as USA simply because they’re ignorant, but this is blatantly trying to screw someone.

Did the seller add the Made in USA to the tag in the second photo? I'm assuming this is actually China made, but I'm curious if that was photoshopped, inked in, or something else.

Looks like the “made in China” was scratched off the back of the packaging. What ********.

There's some unmodified versions from another auction. He definitely added the Made in the USA to the front, and whited out the back.

The seller resides in "CHITOWN" (Chicago, what a surprise), which I thought was pretty funny.

Doesn't surprise me how low people go. Flag the listing.

I sent him this...

“Not to cause trouble, but this is a newer Taiwan made ratchet. L-AG is a date code that signifies this ratchet was manufactured in 2018, so I’m not sure how you could have “had this for years”. The “Made In USA” sticker was added to the front the and “Made In Taiwan” was scratched off the back of the tag. This is very deceiving. The USA made versions of these ratchets stopped being made in 2010/2011 and were never 84T, they were 60T. I’m just curious if you’re aware of this information and will correct it? I’m not necessarily accusing you, but everything about your listing is inaccurate and deceptive”.

I’ll let you know if I receive a response.

Nice. I reported the listing as search and browse manipulation.

Everyone reading this thread should also report the listing as Fraudulent to the auction site .

Look at the crease marks on the front tag. He kind of mangled it putting it in there.

No reason not to cause trouble. I don't believe in karma because way too many bad people are doing well but with a little luck this particular individual will get what he deserves.

I place thieves less than one level above murderers and scammers are no different than thieves.

I sent him an email to, not quite as diplomatic as yours...

How do you report a listing?

Newest reason I hate EBAY; to report this, you are limited to their list of reasons. You can't explain specifically why this is a bad listing and their list *****.

I also filed an ""eBait"" report on this scumbag. I sometimes wonder if eBait ever looks at anything unless they have money to gain or lose. I have reported the turd messing up tool searches with his "proto type" ratchets several times, but it seemed to do no good.

Dang; did I spell something wrong?

I am not surprised, if you can remember not that long ago we even had GJ members doing things that were very dishonest, like changing handles, changing out heads, etc. report the guy with 100% positive and keep your eyes open to help the public out.

Sad but it happens more then you think and not just tools...

Why are you guys emailing the guy? That doesn't happen by accident. He knows what he did. Just report it... though I doubt Ebay will do anything.

Informing him of why you know it is fake may give him ideas on how to make his fakes more difficult to spot. Better that his fakes stay obvious.

He listed the brand as "CRAFTMANS". We don't need to be worried, he isn't intelligent enough.

Some one is scamming on Ebay? Nah. Never gonna happen. Nothing but good, honest folks following the Golden Rule there. That's what Ebay is all about.

The closeup of the front sideways, looks like the upper half was taken from something else or reprinted. The lower portion of that sticker is more orange than red. Unlike whats in post #5.

This stuff happens more than you think. I recently bought what was listed as a brand new Ken Tool T45A tire bar. When it arrived it had this odd hammertone finish that was unlike any grey paint i'd ever seen on a Ken Tool bar and i noticed that the stop on the spoon end to catch the truck rim when removing a tire had this crappy spot weld holding it on instead of the typical one piece forged stop that a genuine bar would have. The bar also had no stampings or part numbers on it which is also unlike any Ken Tool i have ever seen. By the time all this was realized the bar had already been used and could not be returned. Just enough to piss a guy off, i went to my local Napa and picked up another Ken tool bar a week later to compare and this one was everything i remember a new Ken tool bar being, complete with the nice USA stamping, part numbers, and one piece forged rim stop. There are people passing off straight up china tools as brand names on ebay, watch out. I learned my lesson, should have just spent money locally in the first place.

:headscratI've seen enough threads that makes me believe this doesn't apply to buyers. (Since I'm not a scammer, cheater or thief I'm always hesitant to buy there.)

There are certainly buyers who are thieves... Buying with stolen PayPal accounts... laundering money with gift cards and merchandise... making false "not as described" claims to exploit PayPal policies... etc... etc... etc.

Lots of good honest folks on Ebay too.

Simpler than that. It's made with a label maker on clear tape, stuck on.

^^^THIS.

Frankly, this is evolution in action. Anyone stupid enough to both fall for that ad and pay a 50% premium for it deserves to be separated from their money.

Nope, that argument's pretty much indefensible, the seller is committing fraud. I understand where you're coming from (caveat emptor!) but people have a legal and moral requirement to be honest when they're selling stuff.

My comment has nothing to do with the legality of committing fraud. Obviously the seller is doing that, and there are legal implications to that. My point is that buyers need to put on their big boy pants and take responsibility for their own actions. That ad is so blatantly fake that anyone who falls for it is a ***** and needs to face up to that fact.

I should also say that this ad is so blatantly bogus that my first reaction was, this is part of someone's psych thesis on the gullibility of the American public. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this was placed as a prank or by a troll.

The seller is committing fraud. Punishment is to be subjected to criticism on a public forum. If it happens enough times they may have to get a new name.
Not much different than other businesses.

Is that what happens when you’re bored in the garage with a stamp and label maker kit?

Whoever went to that much trouble would have been better off to remove it from the package and keep it than do all that. Good grief.
