Blind bearing pullers

Anyone know if there are other sizes blind bearing puller to match Proto 4280? Looks like thats the only size proto makes. I see an OTC American made set for $500 and a bunch of import knockoffs. Thanks!

There are numerous sets out there. I would venture the OTC set is rebranded for the tool trucks. Search "blind bearing puller set".

I have an import knockoff set that cost me 40 bucks I think. It is identical in every way to the OTC 4581. I bought it because I was going to have to modify it for removing a blind one side opening bearing in blower cases and wasn't speeding 500 bucks to experiment with...

We've got one; $208 and it's never yet been successful in pulling a pilot bearing.

I have a 20+ year old set from HF that works and hasn't broken. I only use it every few years but it hasn't let me down

To me the OTC 4581 looks identical to the Pittsburgh one I just bough at HF.

I have the old version of the otc 6981, it has pulled everything I have ever attempted, which has been quite a bit. It is an amazing tool and if I would replace it immediately if it were ever stolen or lost. I also have made several different yolks for it as quite regularly something narrower will fit better. It is an amazing tool.

And what size hole and ball are you going to use? Not to mention the pressure screw, are you going to make that as well?

Might be easier and cheaper to just buy what you need.

Pack the pocket with grease, insert the dowel, 'n Wack it with a BFHammer,.....

Maybe for a pilot bushing on a SBC, but there are plenty of spots where you cannot pack it with grease or white bread and push out the bushing/bearing due to location or application.

White bread is cleaner, and easier for through hole bearings...

Blind bearing pullers are specifically for removing races for tapered roller bearings in blind holes. Bread won't help.

Edit: there is no room for the typical puller jaw thickness in this application . Like what's shown above for pilot bearings

Don't know what ball you are referring to. If I build it myself, yes would make the threaded spreader as well.

You would be better off buying them.....or at least one to understand how they work before attempting to make one. How do you think they expand when you put the expanding rod inside the collet?
