While at Menard's today I spied, on the closeout shelf, a bunch of Blue Point ball peen hammers. :dunno:
40 oz wood handle for $45
I didn't think to mosey on over to the tool department to look for anything else.

Menards will sell pretty much anything they can get a deal on. A while back they were selling Tekton adjustable wrenches and I saw this recent picture of them selling Kirkland beef sticks. For those unfamiliar, Kirkland is Costco's store brand.

I’m guessing they buy shipping containers at liquidation auctions or something like that

Got a link?
No link. These were on an end cap where this particular store stashes odds and ends that have been marked down. typically the markdowns aren't anything great and stuff here lingers. Next time there I'll snap a photo as there were quite a few and at $45 I doubt will be moving quickly.
The head markings and label were as T45 posted above.
If you asking because you want one send me a PM, I'm there semi frequently and could pick one up for you.

The snacks and candy section there always gets me in trouble. Somehow a bag of Twizzlers and some peanuts always winds up in my cart.

John Menard got his start selling closeout merchandise he bought for Penneys on the dollar. Their flash sales, both on the internet and in the paper flier often feature limited quantity deals, so finding something like this hammer isn’t a surprise.

I once bought some luxury vinyl floor tile, which was not bad and at a low price. I wanted one more box, and there were no more in the Menards system, so I called the number on the carton. The guy immediately recognized the SKU as a product he had clearances through Menards the year before. He didn’t have anymore, since the product was discontinued.and a one time deal at Menards.

His office was in Huntington Beach, likely a one man import operation working from his house.

John Menard started by building pole barns in the late 1950's.

Nah, not at $45 each.

My thoughts as well. And they are are all still there as of yesterday. On a tool truck, having that whiff of Snap-On and financing, a guy(not this one) might bite.
The cognoscenti know it is a $20 Vaughan.
It’s probably easier for a guy with a Snap-On driver to warrantee the Blue-Point hammer if necessary.

Could be a precursor to Snap-On being sold in retail stores...

That will never happen unless the company is sold.
Thanks for reminding me of these. I need to visit Menards soon so intend to check if any of these sold. A $45 hammer is a hard sell at a big box store, especially a rebranded one. Unless Menards got these essentially free my guess is they blew it with this purchase.

That’s part of the fun of going to Menards, you never know what strange close out deal they landed. I saw some Kobalt 1/4” magnetic nut setters in there once.

I checked the website and saw nothing but quite possibly something just "licensed" by Snap-On/Blue Point. I bought a couple of Snap-On flashlights a while back. Simply stated on the back a Licensed product.

Snap-On has lots of little doodads they license with their name and logo on them.

At this point, I cannot even imagine paying $75, or even $45, for a regular ball peen.

I found the 32oz version of it in my hammer drawer. I know that I didn’t pay any more than $5 for it.

If I had a real need for a ball peen… and if the price was closer to the Vaughan price… like $25ish… I would totally buy that.IMG_5778.jpeg

Menards had Snap-On licensed electric pressure washers in store about 8 years ago. Thread: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/who-makes-so-power-washers.327999/

It was quite possibly the worst tool I have ever purchased, but it was branded Snap-On. They also had SO branded LED lights along the same lines. Those weren't so disposable.
Costco sold those too, and more.

My FIL was showing me the work light he bought there for $25 like he just bought the Hope Diamond at a garage sale for a nickel.

I didn't have the heart to tell him.
