Hello,

I must admit and say that I hate throwing away things. Yes, I can be a bit of a hoarder. With that said, I work at a BMW dealership and come across these strut spacers which are installed on most new cars from the factory. These spacers are removed during the QC1 inspection and thrown away, although I don't always do, therefore I've accumulated a bunch of them over the years.

Trying to come up with ways to repurpose them, I've decided to use them as hangers for garden/yard tools. They are plenty strong and clamp locked if needed.

I tried one yesterday with one of my rakes and it holds perfectly fine. I'm thinking of making a "swing away" arm to place on the corner of the shed where I can hang all/most of my tools and be able to clear some wall space in the shed.

If anyone can think of other uses, please post them. If anyone is interested in getting a few of these, please let me know. I'll be glad to gift them and all you gotta do is pay for shipping. (This I thought for BMW fans who would like to have a BMW part as a tool holder. These are sold by BMW if you ever wanted them and they are listed in the catalog.)

Joe

What's the I.D.?

I'm sorry, I guess that would help.
White Spacer:
I.D. - 25mm
O.D. - 58mm
Height - 29.5mm
BMW part# 31-33-2-283 (806-01)

Blue Spacer (no pics):
I.D. - 24.5mm
O.D. - 57.6mm
Height - 14.9mm
BMW part# 31-33-2-283 (805-01)

Edited add: These spacers are extremely strong. I've found them in cars with 12k+ miles, where the QC1 tech didn't remove them, and although they are usually crushed, they don't ever break. So I'm sure they'll hold the tools without any problems.

I have only seen them on the front. Not sure if at some point they were on the rear too. They are also not installed on all of the vehicles. The tech must look for them or for a description decal usually placed on a left rear window.

Lmk how many you'll like. I thought the BMW fans would think of them as "cool" and find something to use them for.

very useful to put on a car with a broken spring to make it mobile for recovery . just jack the car and fit on the strut stops the tyre rubbing on the arch
