I was looking for the main walls to be a board & batten and was looking to do a horizontal in my gable. I like that look. Is that a T1 11 cedar siding? Pic of our rancher pre and post change attached. Is this what you have in mind? Cedar siding.
Cheers,
Bruce

Like "The Shrine" shows. True board and batten siding - with individual boards - has entirely too many potential leaks. Do a full sheet of cement fiber siding and apply the battens over it if you want the look.

The OP asked specifically for "board & batten vertical siding"...that's what The Shrine has. When done correctly, with the right craftsman, B & B is a proven method to clad a building. Using the excuse of potential leaks is tantamount to claiming shingles on a roof are potential leaks and you shouldn't use them either.
Cheap and easy to get a "look" is an option. It was not an option for The Shrine.
