I bought a Bonney T35 at the flea this morning. Also stamped PWA 1394 for Pratt-Whitney Aircraft. Got home and checked AA and there it is. But I cannot tell from the pictures if it had an oiler in the hole in the head, like an old Craftsman.

Did a google search and I am back here. Strange if it originally had an open hole, and more strange because the word "oil" is stamped on the back plate. More strange because I saw a beat up 1/2" version and it also had an empty hole in the head. But it is commom with Craftsman for the oilers to come out.

The last picture is my Craftsman boxhead on the right with an oiler.

Is there supposed to be an oiler in that hole. If so I would like to see a picture so I can try to match it.

I have a nice 1/2 dr Bonney 4098. When I got it, it didn't work well in reverse, almost like it was missing a tooth or skipping. I dropped the ratchet into our parts cleaner and left it in for 2 days. I got it out today and it works much better than it did before. It is much smoother and actually works in both directions. Its the only Bonney tool I have in my collection.

I've asked the question in the past.I've been trying to find the oiler fittings for several of my old ones but haven't had any luck.

Now, why did I not think about taping the hole and screwing in a grease fitting. Should it be straight, 45, or 90?

Again, I would like to see a pic of what should be in the T35 hole to get an idea of what it should look like.

Link is from a prior post where this subject came up.

I thought maybe I could get the oiler from a Craftsman, but I do not have an extra to try.

It's Elroy opinion that if you go tapping threads into the head of that collector tool you should be hunted down like a rabid dog and have all your tools confiscated. Having them replaced with the crappiest Chinese stuff available. :banhim:

Why would you even consider such sacrilege :bitchslap

Who would want a puss filled pimple sticking out the side of their ratchet

Come on, They aren't that hard to find

http://www.saeproducts.com/flush-grease-fittings.html

now granted they may not be an exact match for the ones that were made 50 or 60 years ago but they're still available

I've found those style in the past, the problem usually is that the "B" dimension is usually too long.If you drive the fitting in till it's flush the base hits the gear.

@Tool Pants, here's a pic of my Bonney ratchet. As you can see, it has both the Oil hole on the face and a hole on the top.

The way you see the open hole on the top is they way the ratchet was when I got it and the way it's on all others I've seen. I couldn't verify if that's how it's supposed to be or if it originally had a oil cover like in that link you provided.

Here is the pic from wyndycty that he sent to me. The left one is his. The right one is mine.

Both of them have an open hole in the head, unless we are both missing the oilers.

This old stuff is way before my time.

A few months ago at the flea I saw the 1/2" version and it also had an empty hole in the head, so I did not buy it because I thought it was missing the oiler. At the flea today there is an old 1/2" in good shape with no brand name, but it also has an empty hole in the head.

I am a Craftsman guy. In the olden days for Craftsman there was a brass oiler in the head, but they sometimes fall out. No clue if this is what happened to the Bonney T35, but stamping the word "oil" on the reverse plate where the pawl is is weird if you have an open hole in the head 1 inch away.

This message board is not good for old stuff.

I just got a T35 yesterday, and, you guessed it, an open oil hole on top. Either at least three of us are missing the oiler, or there never was one. Could someone post a pic of one that still has the oiler?

Elroy doubts that is going to happen.

If we many be so bold, how much did that T35 command ?
