I am in need of a battery operated hacksaw or sawzall.... I have a Makita but it is heavy and bulky and the battery is getting very weak... I am also using it mainly for 1/2 and 3/4" EMT so the full size sawzall is very bulky. I am looking at this kit HERE I also have a Bosch 18v Drill and Impact kit I have had for about 3 years. It has been VERY good to me other than batteries needing replacing so now I have 4 batteries. I am looking at selling all of what I have or just keeping it at home for projects here. What are your folk thoughts? I like the more complete line of options for the Milwaukee stuff and am going to pull the trigger on something tomorrow. My other option is just getting a smaller kit like THIS and using it when in the field. I do machine repair, diagnostics, installation, and removal. I also do a lot of electrical and pipe fitting. We offer a full line of industrial service so I need to carry enough stuff with me to be prepared for most anything. That is why I am leaning towards the Milwaukee route....

If you want the best performance you can get in a small package, take a look at the milwaukee fuel m12 line. If you need more power, m18 fuel. If you're out in the field, you want the longest run time from your tool. Brushless + Red lithium is going to give you what you need.

The fuel hackzall will be out pretty quick.

I was looking at the M12 series first as they have the drill and impact set on sale for $99 but my local stores are out of it.... I was going to add the m12 saw for 129 and be all set... But now I am leaning towards the M18 just for those times when I need the extra power for drilling holes... I mount alot of conduit to machines so being able to zip in self tapers with the impact is great.

I appreciate the input please keep it coming....

Has anyone used the Milwaukee and Bosch both? I would like to know how the power compares in both the 18V models....

You're looking at m12, not m12 fuel. Fuel means brushless. Cost difference is big and so is the tool performance.

I'd buy M12 Fuel before I'd buy brushed M18, at least for most stuff. The price and power are generally pretty comparable, and M12 batteries are pretty damn cheap. I've got the regular old M12 hackzall and am pretty happy with it, although I'll probably buy the new Fuel one eventually because, well... I have a problem. And it's my only commonly used brushed tool... aside from that only my dremel-y-thing, shop vac, and radio aren't brushless.

I got the hackzall shortly after I dumped my Makita stuff about 2 years ago, and it was my only cordless saw for a while until I got around to buying the M18 Fuel sawzall, so it's seen a lot of use. I used it to cut damn near the entire perimeter of a 16' aluminum step van body at the floor and thought for sure I was going to melt the windings, but it's still kicking. It doesn't cut the fastest, but it's light as hell compared to a sawzall, and still sees more use now that I have one.

TBH my M18 use is limited to stuff where I need more than M12 can provide or an M12 tool doesn't exist. I have the sawzall, grinder, shop vac, and 3/8" impact gun, and really only the impact gun sees a lot of use. I had an M18 Fuel drill for a few weeks, but ended up dumping it because I didn't have the need (I'm a mechanic, not a contractor) for the extra power often enough to want to swing it around.

I wish I had somewhere locally I could go test the M12 fuel and M18 side by side tomorrow.... I am leaning towards the 18 just because I know how much better my bosch 18 was than my 12. I know the fuel is all brushless but I would hate to not have the extra little I need when I do.... It's not a big deal for me to carry a charger in the field with me. Maybe I will look at getting just the M12 hacksaw for now and see how it goes... I just like to keep all my stuff the same and like to only have to worry about carrying one charger/battery....

Well I decided to ditch my Bosch and Makita stuff in exchange for Milwaukee M12 and M18 stuff.
