Bostitch coil nailer repair

Hey Everyone,

I'm building a lean to on an existing pole barn right now and borrowed a Bostitch coil nailer from a friend to make the project move a little faster.

The nailer hasn't been used in a few years and my friend mentioned that it had been jamming last time he used it.

I loaded it with new nails and went to use it, sure enough it jams, more specifically the firing pin will not retract after shooting a nail. There is a (large) air leak around the trigger valve. Am I looking at new o-rings on the trigger valve, a new valve, or possibly something more?

I believe the nailer is a N80CB-1

I want to get this fixed quick so I can get back to work and of course return it better than I got it!

When was the last time it was oiled?

Did you add air gun oil before you connected it to the hose to use it?

IME (N-80S), in normal use, there is some air leakage at the trigger but not enough to interfere with the operation ability of the gun.

Check also to ensure that there isn't a piece of nail coil wire fragment jammed into the drive anvil mechanism. I've seen this happen frequently on Bostitch coil roofing nail guns (N-12 series) just from rapid pace use (not abuse). If a piece got in there, it may be causing the failure you describe.

Last time I bought parts for mine was on Ebay. Not fast but at least I could get them.

Mine was leaking air and it was the big seal under the cover on the top that broke.

Something to look for.

probably needs a trigger kit. mine did the same & I tried to replace the orings, but I recall there was an odd shaped washer inside... that only came with the kit. about $25 if I recall

I've found Bostitch nailers to be notorious for trigger seal failure. IIRC it's a ridiculously expensive kit with trigger valve with like two o-rings and a tube of silicone grease in it.
