Boxes and Fixtures

So I've been putting together my lighting upgrade for my 25x25 garage. It has unpainted drywall and open truss ceilings. The bottom of the rafters is 8.5' high.

I've opted to go with 10 150w equivalent CFLs that are screwed in to 10 of these porcelain fixtures. I know I might catch flack for using CFL in a lower ceiling, but I had ribbons taped showing where the lights would be and decided I'm fine with it.

So my question is on the boxes and fixtures design I should use. I already bought 10 of these, even though I should asked here first.

I was intending to mount these directly to the bottom of the trusses, hence why I got smaller ones.

Question: Do I need to pigtail off my main wire run, or can I use the screws as a connection point to continue the lights? If I should pigtail all of these, I need a box mounted. Can I screw these sockets to the box or should I still screw them directly to the rafters? Boxes have 1 open side that gets covered by the fixture, faceplate, etc. These sockets are too small to cover any box. As you see my problem gets bigger the more I look at these sockets.

I understand the wiring part and I'm having an electrician friend do all the work from the switch to the panel. I'm just curious if I'm bending too much on my light mounting and wiring design.

Yep you should of asked first. Those are the wrong sockets, they are for exposed connections and need to be inside of a fixture. Send them back and get this type.

These are meant to be on a 4" round box. Get round boxes with a side bracket mounting provision and mount flush with the bottom of the truss. Then the correct keyless lamp-holder will protrude less or the same than the wrong ones.
All wiring connections must be inside a box, no exceptions.

To expand a bit on MTW's post, do you really want exposed live terminals on the lampholders? All it would take is a long metallic item at the wrong place,at the wrong time & someone gets bit or worse, it's a longshot but still could happen. The keyless lampholders are a much better choice, & cheap too....

Yes thanks for replying both of you. I saw those pony cleats and they looked so convenient. Don't need a box and fit on the narrow rafter! So convenient! Then as they are in the mail I start thinking they can sell me whatever idiotic device I want and aren't concerned with safety or meeting code necessarily. I'll go with what mtw suggested. With a box and pigtail at each.
