Stripped the gears inside my Proto Big-dawg. Apparently you shouldn't hit it with a sledge trying to remove bolts...

:wtf: That's a punishable offense!! Mandatory jail time for very poor tool etiquette. Didn't your daddy teach you anything.

Why should Proto warranty something that was obviously abused? That's not part of the deal. I think JC Penney, SEARS and WARDS were the only companies that warranted questionable abuse of their hand tools.

I always beat on the breaker bars. Better selection of lengths and easier to get cheaters to stay on. And dead blows don't bounce every where.

Well we could say we know how it was broken. Using it as a striker wrench isn't good for it. ;) jk

An air/vacuum leak on the suction/feed side I bet...

William....
That was my guess, but I can't find any leak. Only thing to do now is dismantle the damn thing to get the metal tube that goes down into the Media out & have a look at that.
That tube is kinda thin so it could have worn a hole in it. If that is the culprit I'll be replacing that tube with a 2ft section of 1/2in black pipe.

hmm...
broke the square drive off a 16x1.5mm HSS made in china tap. I have a Vermont American in the same size that isn't as sharp, but sure is a helluva lot tougher. no more cheap cutting tools for me, even if it costs $30 for one USA spiral point 3-flute tap.

...had chrome flaking off a c-man 22mm socket. Does that count? no trouble with replacing it at the local Sears.

like most everyone else, apparently, I twisted the tip off a 3/8 extension several months ago. It was **** anyway- no markings on it at all.

I have fasteners fail more often than tools- for example, was torquing a 12mm nut and bolt together to 50 ft lbs when instead of taking the torque, the nut decided to mushroom out and get stuck in my socket. :wtf: I was kinda mad.

I've had a bad run with two short SK 1/2" drive chrome sockets. Within a week I cracked the 5/8" and the 3/4". No air tools and no abuse, just used a ratchet to install some lag bolts on the deck. These sockets were purchased in the early 1970's -- Hope this isn't a trend.

Anyone know if SEARS will warranty this stuff? They sell a lot of SK there now.

I seriously doubt that Sears will warranty them. You'll probably just have to mail them in.

I'm a little surprised that you broke those sockets. As far as I know the quality was even better on the older sockets, and I've seen tons of old SK sockets still in great shape. Maybe you got a bad batch or something.

Elroy broke this 1/4" extension a few weeks ago working on a friends '65 Buick. Pissed me off because this extension is basically irreplaceable and actually worth MORE than the Buick.

Well not really. The Buick is nice and worth a fair piece of change.

Well ole Elroy went to the country this evening and paid a visit to "Mr. Buick". Snapped a few pics of the 65 and his 1971 Stage 1

As stated. The 65 is a nice ride:

And the 1971 Stage 1 in the back. It's not as nice but it'll come around through the tire smoke

Broke a generic 3/8ths to 1/2 adapter a few days ago trying to break the lugs loose on my buddies G35 after the tire shop decided to use an airgun to torque them.

I broke a Snap on HBD24 dead blow ball peen hammer the other. The plastic on top of the hammer cracked while beating on a control arm and now the head is real loose and unsafe to use.
I had Snap on 1/4 drive 8 and 10mm sockets crack while using them on a Gearwrench rotoratchet.

What in the hell were you doing with 1/4" drive on lug nuts? For that matter, what were you doing with 3/8" on lug nuts? :headscrat

The tools I break most are torx bit sockets. I work on alot of SAAB's and they are COVERED with torx fasteners. Some fasteners really need quite a bit of breakaway torque.

My Snap-on ones were the biggest disappointment, considering the cost. I gave the Cornwell guy back his lame Asian re-labels(the tools were not bad, but the price was too high for Asian tools)

I bought some Gearwrench ones for 19.99, that put the Snap-on ones to shame, what a shame.

I still plan on getting some Hazet ones, but for now I actually bought Gearwrench; because I was in a bind.

How can GW out do, Snap-on for 19.99???????????????????

I bought an Asian tool, I feel soo guilty.

Last tools I broke were 15/16" sockets. One was a Mastercraft and the other was a Taiwan no-name. Both were replaced with C-Man the next morning... The nice thing about breaking the last few Chinese tools I have is I have an excuse to replace it with quality stuff. At least, it's an excuse the wife will buy...

Because my buddy's car had a wierd lug size and I only had a 3/8ths socket in deep well that would fit it. His rear wheels have a very deep lip. My torque wrench and breaker bar are 1/2"
